"A rather mediocre experience. I've been a Ctrip member for 15 years and rarely leave bad reviews, so I'll give this a passing grade of 3.0. The main reasons for the average experience were: 1. My baby had a fever in the middle of the night and couldn't get up the next day. I wanted to take some breakfast back to the room, but they wouldn't allow it, and the staff's attitude was quite stiff. At over 1700 RMB for two nights for three adults and one child, the price wasn't cheap. Since the hotel couldn't be understanding towards me, I can't be understanding towards them in my rating. 2. There must be floor heating or central air conditioning, because the room was extremely dry, even drier than indoors in Beijing during the heating season."

"I chose Nan She for both of my trips to Datong, spaced about twenty days apart. The first time was by chance, but the second was a deliberate choice, both reflecting my high appreciation for every aspect of Nan She. It's located right beneath the North City Wall of the ancient city, close to Daiwang Mansion and Kuixing Tower. Its proximity to the main road makes getting around very convenient. The entrance to the North City Wall is just a few minutes' walk away, offering a superb spot to watch the sunset over the ancient city. The breakfast at the guesthouse is absolutely delicious. The rooms are spotless, and the bedding is clean; every detail is perfectly executed. The overall service is beyond words – attentive, warm, and thoughtful. Choosing the right accommodation is a crucial part of enhancing the travel experience, and both of my stays here provided an excellent one. Datong is a city you'll want to revisit; the more you get to know it, the more you'll love it. The blend of history and modernity, delicious food, and beautiful scenery offers endless appeal. A big thank you to all the staff at Nan She. Your hard work contributes to the dreamy Datong of today and will surely bring you an even brighter future! Wishing you all the best! 🌹🌹🌹"

"The environment and design of Wantoo B&B are warm and comfortable, and the coffee shop in the courtyard has a very romantic ambiance. The rooms are clean and cozy, and the breakfast is well-balanced. The owner, who prepares breakfast, mentioned that the breakfast menu changes daily, but unfortunately, we only stayed for two days, and indeed, the breakfasts were different on both days. The front desk lady had an excellent service attitude. Since there aren't many supermarkets in the old town, it's hard to find fruit, but she kindly gave us apples and pears. The B&B offers free bicycles and tricycles, and spending a day cycling freely around the old town was truly delightful. It was a genuinely great experience."

No. 6 of Premium Hotels in Datong"This was my second stay at Jianguo Hotel Yungang, and it was quite satisfying. The front desk saw my room preferences (non-smoking, quiet) and provided a room that met my expectations, which was great! The breakfast selection was as plentiful as ever. This time, there were a lot of guests, so they opened up several additional dining areas. Even with more people getting food, the supply was very timely. The late-night congee service was also a thoughtful touch; Xiao Zhang and Xiao Hu, who were in charge, were diligent and quick, refilling items promptly. When they had a free moment, they even chatted with guests, which felt very warm and welcoming.
On the last day, before checking out, I noticed they were paving asphalt and filling potholes outside the entrance. This was tough for the several couples getting married that day – it was hard for cars to get in, and the newlyweds had to get out of their cars and enter the hotel while enduring the black smoke from the asphalt. I hope the hotel can consider local customs and feelings, and schedule such construction for a different time.
Before I left, I noticed a super-sized croissant on the in-room dining menu, which piqued my interest. It looked like sliced hua mo (steamed flower bun). I'll have to see the real thing next time, haha!"

"The staff were so so friendly and super nice!!! Told them it was our honeymoon and there was a handwritten note with fruits and snacks waiting for us on the table. They didn't have to, but they did ☺️ when we left, we were rushing for the train and didn't have time to eat breakfast. The staff were so concerned we were skipping breakfast she quickly packed some food for us to go and even ran after us to pass us cutlery because she forgot to pack some.
Would recommend staying here 10/10!"

"The hotel is conveniently located near the ancient city, with a laundry room, gym, and parking facilities. The staff were very friendly and greeted us warmly. The rooms were clean, tidy, well-laid out, and well-soundproofed with comfortable beds, perfect for a relaxing rest after a long day of sightseeing. There's a large parking lot behind the hotel, shared with a nearby restaurant, making parking very convenient. When we returned the next day, the hotel was still impeccably cleaned, and they even thoughtfully provided extra bottled water and tissues because we drank a lot. The hotel is also surrounded by popular restaurants like Beiwei Family Banquet, Kaige Hot Pot City, and Hongya Hotel. Hongya Hotel, in particular, is incredibly popular, offering morning tea, Shanxi cuisine, and a Western restaurant. There's also Xijindao Noodle Shop across the street, making dining incredibly convenient. I'd definitely choose this hotel again next time!"

Huayan Temple, Shanhua Temple, and the ancient city wall are all within walking distance. It's a great choice if you're traveling with elderly family members or children, as you can easily return to rest whenever you get tired from sightseeing. The service is also very good, from the guest rooms to the restaurant staff.
The downside is that the hotel is quite old, and the facilities are a bit dated, though they do have all the essentials. During this season, the rooms can get a bit stuffy and dry. Our room had a screen door for ventilation, but not all rooms have one.
Overall, I'd recommend this hotel for first-time visitors to Datong."

We arrived quite early and there wasn't a suitable room available, so they immediately upgraded us to a larger room (which was perfectly spacious). All our daily needs were met, and they even offered pear soup at night because Datong's weather is so dry, showing great respect for every guest. The breakfast buffet was absolutely fine in terms of quality (there's a photo of the breakfast knife-cut noodle chef). I also particularly recommend the hotel's Chinese restaurant (there's a photo of us taking food to go for our high-speed train). On our last day, we were rushing from Datong back to Beijing to catch our high-speed train. We misjudged our time at Yingxian Wooden Pagoda and Hanging Temple, but still wanted to enjoy Datong cuisine on the train. We went to the hotel's Chinese restaurant, and the lady who greeted us was incredibly warm and efficient. The chefs were also super impressive, preparing our desired dishes for takeout in just 20 minutes. We made it to the train just in time and enjoyed a fantastic meal on board. I just had to leave a review – our Datong trip was perfect! (There are photos of cats at various attractions)."
