Best Dunhuang Hotels

"The Dunhuang Hotel lives up to its reputation! It's located right next to the Shazhou Night Market and offers a wealth of dining options. The hotel's facilities are first-class, elegant, and beautifully appointed. I originally booked a king-size bed room without a window, but the hotel proactively upgraded me to one with a window, which was very thoughtful. The room was comfortable and cozy, and the front desk and housekeeping were attentive and helpful. I stayed four nights, and while the room was quite expensive, it was a great value! The only downside was the breakfast. While the breakfast setting was pleasant, the service was friendly, and the food looked plentiful, it was almost identical every day and not particularly tasty. The hot dishes tasted like leftovers. The cantaloupe wasn't sweet at all, and there were several canned fruits on display. It's harvest season, so why not have more fresh fruit?"

"We stayed 2 nights. The hotel is very nice, clean, and centrally located. The staff was very friendly and helped us with all our requests. In particular the girl with the black glasses at the reception, whose name we don't remember, was wonderful. We like to say Thank you Again We highly recommend this hotel if you are in Dunhuang."

"The hotel is well located in city center and provides complimentary pick up/drop off service from train station. There is a direct bus which goes to mogao caves right in front the hotel- making self transport a breeze. Room is spacious and nicely designed with a large bath tub. Apart from the hotel hardware, what really stood out was the extra mile services offered by the staff. There are 2 staff who really shine. Firstly, Ms tong tong （彤彤）was very patient in explaining all the touristy sites around and how to get there. She helped us book performance tickets so we could enjoy some discounts. When we enquired about transfer to liu yuan, she not only checked for all the information online for us but also personally went to the bus station to find a driver who goes to liuyuan. We're so impressed with her extra mile service!! Really kudos to her great personality and service. Next staff to mention is Mr li (李师傅）who picked us up at the train station. He suggested some dining places to us and offered to drop us off at mogao caves when we bumped into him at the hotel lobby. Overall, highly recommend to stay at this hotel."

"Checked in on New Year's Eve. Two wind towels were given as a gift when I checked in. I took a photo of it specially because it was my favorite color, hehe. Cleanliness: The room was surprisingly clean. No weird smell. Facilities: Free toiletries are provided. The bathroom is spacious. The eco-friendly slippers are comfortable, but you can’t take them away. Environment: Entering the hall, it is cozy, warm and the heating is very good. Service: The beauties in the lobby are enthusiastic and warm. To emphasize, heating is very good in winter. The bedding was clean and tidy. We stayed for two days and went out to the scenic spot on the second day. They cleaned and tidied the room without any request. It is convenient to eat. There is an authentic beef noodle restaurant opposite the hotel, a convenience store next door, and a large supermarket around the corner, which is open on New Year's Eve. A perfect trip to Dunhuang! Dunhuang of the world, where my heart longs for!"

"Hotel is very nice. The location is close to the Shanzhou Night Market and it takes roughly 5-10 Minutes by walking there. In one of the side alleys are hidden gems, namely restaurants that do not appear on Google Maps or Apple Maps. I recommend to explore the surrounding area. Also the hotel is very clean in general, however my room has stains of previous travelers in the rug. I recommend to thoroughly clean it professionally. The staff were excellent and super friendly. Check In was very easy as foreigner and the overall service was very good."

"The overall design is strong and the service is also very good. In the morning, you can hear the sound of the shower draining upstairs in the courtyard room, which is a bit noisy. At night, you can hear singing upstairs when you sit in the courtyard, but you can no longer hear it after you return to the room and close the door."

"This stay at the Wanda Vista Dunhuang was truly unforgettable! I accidentally knocked my license plate off that day and was wondering what to do. The hotel's engineering department proactively brought tools to help fix it, and quickly installed it perfectly. This thoughtful service was truly touching. I have to praise their dinner! After a day of driving, we returned to the hotel's Chinese restaurant. The noodles were incredibly tender and smooth, and even the simple cold dishes were beautifully prepared. The waiters also thoughtfully recommended side dishes, giving us a taste of authentic Dunhuang cuisine. The room was even more than I expected! The design blends modern comfort with Dunhuang cultural elements. The mattress was just the right firmness, and I slept soundly every night. The bathroom had a perfect dry and wet separation, and the hot water was reliable. From the efficient problem-solving to the quality of the food and beverages, to the accommodation experience, every aspect of the hotel's service was truly thoughtful. This unexpected experience has made us loyal fans of the hotel, and I've already recommended it to anyone visiting Dunhuang!"

"We drove here with our kids. The room had a bathtub and a projector, which the kids loved. The view of the vast Mingsha Mountain was stunning. The hotel is very close to the Shazhou Night Market, just downstairs and across the street. We went straight there after dinner. There's a large supermarket downstairs for some supplies. The front desk lady was very helpful and told us that parking is difficult near the Crescent Lake scenic area, but we could take bus No. 3 downstairs directly to the scenic area entrance, which was very convenient."

"It was a completely unexpected state guesthouse-level experience. Since its construction in 1979, the hotel has received many dignitaries and VIPs as a state guesthouse. The murals in the lobby of the north building and the flying fairy in the lobby of the south building are definitely national treasures, and can be called the first cave of Mogao Grottoes. Although the rooms of the old four-star hotel are small and the equipment and facilities are a bit old, the hygiene is very good and the service is very considerate. The breakfast alone is 40 per person, which is a little expensive, but the quality is beyond reproach, especially the fried dough sticks, which are absolutely state banquet-level, and the beef noodles are the standard answer to Lanzhou beef noodles. In the off-season, you can enjoy the state guesthouse at a relatively low price, which is great value!"
