What a find! We popped in here on a Friday night for a couple of drinks and the staff and locals were so friendly and welcoming we decided to book for the Saturday night to have a meal to celebrate a 70th birthday. When we mentioned one of our party was gluten and milk intolerant the chef came out to advise what dishes could be cooked specially to accommodate our needs. This was very much appreciated. The owner was so helpful and professional advising on different drinks and when we came back in on the Saturday he had sprinkled happy birthday confetti on the table, such a lovely touch. The food was really tasty and cooked to perfection. This pub is a real gem. If you pop to the ladies loo they have some interesting signs that will make you smile.

Ate here last night and it was fabulous. Its the little things that make a difference, go beyond - for example my baked cambert was served with celery, grapes as well as delicious toasted bread. And the cambert had a top seasoning that elevated it. The fish and chips was large, cooked perfectly and chips very tasty. Beers were beyond good, they spend a lot of time looking after them, and it shows in their tip top condition.

Staying in Dunster for a few days, we ate in The Stag's Head on the Friday eve. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. Food was hearty and delicious. By far the best place we spent the evening over the three nights of our visit. We're just disappointed we found it on our last night before going home. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!

Visited on Valentines Day for a meal. Had a nice table near the log fire by the window. Greeted by Ringo and Nigel, the landlord, it was like a pub would be in days gone by. It was as if we were being invited into their home and eating the neighbours. Such a lovely atmosphere with local people, chat and laughs. A CAMRA member with some lovely hand pumped ales, you can even have it in a proper beer glass with a handle. The food menu is excellent, and we both over ate. This place will also do accommodation which a friend of ours has used. If you are visiting Dunster, I would recommend you try here. Plenty of local talent plays here, according to the notice board. However, nothing on that Friday, so they happily had romantic music played. Sorry, it was back to back Matt Monroe.

First went here last Friday when we arrived in Dunster and can honestly say we have never been made too feel so welcome. We ate there Friday night steak and ale pie chips veg and gravy just delicious. Been in most nights for a cheeky Prosecco as on holiday and again so friendly and the locals are. Had the fish and chips tonight and again tremendous I cannot recommend this place enough. If you are ever in Dunster you have to go.

A most warm welcome from landlord and locals in a bitterly cold January. Great beer selection. Fox (need to check what nights) was home cooked and pleasing. My slow cooked beef in ale stew was brilliant. Good servings also for fish and chips.

The Stag’s Head in Dunster is an absolute gem and a shining example of a quintessential Somerset pub. From the moment you step through the door, you’re greeted with a warm and friendly atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. The staff are genuinely welcoming, creating a vibe that’s as comforting as the pub’s charming, traditional décor. The highlight of our visit was undoubtedly the fish and chips – hands down the best we’ve had in a long time. The fish was incredibly fresh, cooked to perfection with a golden, crispy batter, and paired beautifully with fluffy, hand-cut chips. The presentation was impeccable, elevating a classic dish to something truly special. Whether you’re a local or just passing through Dunster, The Stag’s Head is a must-visit. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy great food, wonderful company, and the heartwarming essence of Somerset hospitality.

This pub is so me of my favourites of all time, the staff, beer and food are absolutely incredible. Every time we return we are made to feel like one of the family, brilliant place…. Shame we can’t be there more often!! Nigel, Janie, Ringo and all the staff really know how to run a ‘proper’ pub!
