2-Star Hotels in Edinburgh

had a fantastic stay here! there were 10 of us who all booked out a dorm. was quiet, clean and good quality. there are two bathrooms and two toilets per dorm which i thought was very good. our room wasn’t ready for an extra half an hour so they gave us free drink tokens for the bar! the reason this doesn’t get 5 stars is because it was awfully hot in the room - even with the window open! there didn’t seem to be air con - we wondered even if the hostel had put the heating on? we didn’t try the breakfast. the hotel bar had decent food but long waits.

Hassle- free check-in. The room is very simple and basic and will have what you need for your stay (minus the shower gels and shampoo and toothbrush). Pefect if you only stay in your room to sleep after a long tiring day of touring. Location is perfect and very convenient. Close to tram and bus stops. Walking distance to most of the city attractions. We had a great stay and an even more lovely view of the edinburgh castle every night from the hotel room. We have two mid-sized luggages and it was a bit tight to move around the room. But overall, would recommend and would stay in the hotel again.

Best hostel I’ve been to! Visited Edinburgh a number of times and every time we stay here. The staff are always so friendly, the rooms are clean, it has such a great atmosphere, the common area is a great place to meet new people and hang out. Always feel super welcomed and safe here. It’s also in an excellent location very close to the centre of Edinburgh and easy to walk to most places in the city from here. I would highly highly recommend anyone visiting Edinburgh to stay here. I will 100% be back again

The location is ideal, it is close to everything touristy, supermarkets, the bus stop that brings you from the airport,... They leave you the preparations to make coffee or tea in the room and you can even ask for more. If you do not request it, they do not enter your room to fix it, put new towels or coffee, it is done through a cardboard that is placed on the door. The room is not big but you don't want more at all, the only drawback would be the shower which is fixed, it does not have a manual shower head. I would definitely take this hotel again.

Castle Rock Hostel is a great hostel for the location and lounge spaces. It is right by Edinburgh Castle and on the Royal Mile and most things are walkable from the hostel. The bunks are comfortable, but you do share a bathroom with a lot of people as it's one communal bathroom per a floor. There are also no privacy curtains on the bunks, so it can be hard to sleep in the dormitories unless you're a really heavy sleeper. I really loved the complimentary tea and hot chocolate though as well as the cinema in the hostel! The laundry service was also affordable and convenient. The hostel also does a lot of weekly activities which are awesome!

I stayed here for a week of the Edinburgh Fringe. Buses to city centre 5 minutes walk away, or 29 minutes walk to some of the Fringe events. Stunning location under the majestic Arthur's Seat, so I had to have a go. Reception staff are very courteous, helpful and welcoming. Part of Edinburgh University student accommodation which they let out as bed and breakfast accommodation in the summer break. Buffet breakfast in conference centre on site, all you can eat self-serve, gets very busy unless you are an early bird - restaurant is open from 7am... Great value for 3 star accommodation. Clean and spacious bedsits, I paid a little more for en suite.

Fabulous stay for my husband and I in a very clean annexe part of the hostel. Full working kitchen with table and chairs. Our double bedroom was very comfortable, clean, warm and well decorated with a tv. Shared bathroom (2) and separate toilet. The location is superb, just off the Royal Mile, but two things to bear in mind. Firstly there are quite a lot of steep stairs, the building is old with character and so single pane windows. The street below has cobbled stones with tall buildings each side - so great acoustics for hearing all noises and it’s a vibrant city so it’s rarely peaceful. It wasn’t a problem for us but earplugs essential for lighter sleepers I’d say. Great value for money and ideal for the nearby Christmas Matket and seeing the lights in town, at the castle and the superb trail of lights at Edinburgh Botanic Gardens. A short, albeit steep walk up from Waverley train station. Loved our stay here we managed to pack a lot into a short stay due to the location.

This is a good place for backpackers. We stayed here for a couple of nights in a 12 bed dormitory. The beds were good with ample space to keep our stuffs. Toilers were clean. The receptionists were friendly and approachable. The check-in time is 2 PM, so if you arrive early, you'll need to wait in the locker room and help yourself to some coffee. Or else you can keep your bags in a locker and roam around the city till you are ready to check-in. Early check-in is also available, but subject to availability of beds/rooms. Overall, quite good.

From airport, take airlink100 and alight at haymaker. Cross the road and walk back and look for street sign COATES GARDENS . Walk up the slope till you reach the end, there you will see travel lodge right in front of you. Most attractions are walkable and you do not require to buy any bus tickets. Hotel main door facing south east, if you book rooms above main hotel door direction, you will catch morning sun and take beautiful pictures.

We stayed here with my husband and daughter. Our experience was very good. With a 2-star hotel, we were freely surprised by the room, the bathroom, the attention of the owners, the location. We were in the room #5 on the lower floor, with a double bed and two single beds. There were also three individual chairs, and a mouse table with tea/cafe for courtesy, and a space for hanging clothes (approximately 5/6 pearls) and a chair with extra shirts.
