Avoncourt Lodge

We arrived at the Avoncourt after a long, showery day on the South West Coast Path and were checked into a cozy, clean balcony room overlooking Ifracombe. Seems that was all we needed to change our luck! The weather cleared up and we rallied to enjoy an evening stroll around the Ilfracombe harborfront and sea coast. We later enjoyed a nightcap in the honesty bar (kudos on the nice selection of beverages) and sat a while in the library — even though we didn’t do any reading. The next morning’s breakfast was fulsome and tasty, perfect for getting ready for another day’s long walk on the Path. Many thanks to the Avoncourt Lodge for a pleasant overnight stay!

Nice comfortable 2 night stay. Alison Heather were very good hosts. Breakfast was lovely especially ( fruit cup & yogurt) and a nice choice of full English. Room front facing with a small balcony looking over town. We were here for family wedding and it was ideally situated ( 10 minute walk) to the venue the Tunnels. Thanks again. Jacqueline

This really is a lovely place, with very friendly and helpful staff, an excellent breakfas served in a sunny room with good views. Avoncourt has a good location near the town centre (5 mins walk). The owner is delightful, and there is a well-stocked library.

Had a few days away and stayed one night at Avoncourt Lodge as I was travelling through Devon and Cornwall. Alison is a very friendly and helpful host and gave lots of advice about places to eat etc in the town. The breakfast was lovely, kept me going until the eve lol I left one of my charging plugs behind and Alison posted it for me no bother and it arrived home before I did The rooms are somewhat dated but that adds to the charm of the venue, everything was clean and the bed was very comfortable. It’s a bit of a windy road to get to the venue with some very sharp and narrow turns but the views are superb out over the town

The bad points: we had to go home. The good points: easy to book, very friendly owner, very comfy ensuite room, complete with a television, toiletries and towels, tea and coffee in your room and the comfiest bed I've slept in in a very long time. - Owner very knowledgeable of the area, and made very sound recommendations that we followed and didn't regret. - Bar on site - Breakfast included: really fresh and delicious fruit, yogurt, tea, coffee, orange juice, toast with incredible local honey, a full English- all included with the room. Superb! - ideal location for walking to towns, along coastal paths, down to hidden coves, beaches and harbours. - Big icing on the cake for me was: we were able to take our beloved dog. £6 a night to take the pup with us- and he even got a sausage for breakfast too! - I can't recommend it enough. There's parking too.

Lovely place - stayed here for a couple of nights as we were attending a wedding at The Tunnels. Alison and her team were brilliant from minute one of our arrival even giving us a lift down to the wedding venue so we didn't have to walk their ourselves. Room was very clean and breakfast was lovely with lots of choice - would highly recommend
