The Magic Sponge

The Magic Sponge is a great place to stay and the freshly prepared food is wonderful. Food specials are offered several times a week and pictured is the shady outdoor area with free pool tables and tanles and chairs to relax. When I checked in on a warm November day, I was greeted with a cold beverage! I ate several meals here every day. The putt-putt golf course is ready to be played. The internet is fast and lots of streaming choices to view during the warmest times of the day. I hope to return someday.

What a place! We stayed in family room for 3 nights (2 adults and 2 kids 13 and 10). Very comfortable room with strong WIFI (and Netflix etc available). Lovely calm setting with very good choice of food (and generous portions). We happily spent time relaxing in the grounds with mini golf, pool tables and daily happy hour (great cocktails). It is also great location just a few minutes walk from main bars/restaurants. However, the best thing about this place is the owner William. So friendly and helpful, he couldn’t have done more to make our stay any better. Highly recommend this place. We wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Kampot!

We stayed with William for 2 nights and it‘s rather difficult not using superlatives when describing the experience. Luckily enough we arrived on a Tuesday, right on time for the the „Supertaco Tuesday“! This once-a-week experience gives you an american sized portion of a taco. And when I say „american sized“, I really mean BIG! You pay USD 5.- and even get a free drink! Many people struggle with the huge portion but we managed. :-) The magic sponge does not only offer tacos but also many other dishes such as asian, indian etc. And no matter what you order, you can rest assured that you will not leave hungry and not burn a hole in your wallet. They write „A whole world of food - American sized portions“ for a reason after all. But there‘s more than just the yummy food! You‘re staying in this beautiful and well looked after old building with lovely rooms and comfortable beds. Plus you get to enjoy free pool (snooker) and mini-golf - as much and as often as you like! William is a really cheerful and welcoming person and together with his lovely staff he makes sure that you feel right at home. He also has his own TukTuk-driver who took us out for a day to see the pepper plantations and much more. We loved every single minute of it and wholeheartedly recommend him and his guesthouse. We have travelled many years and have yet to stay at a better guesthouse than his. Thanks for everything, William!

My stay here was an absolute delight, especially thanks to William, our host, who was not only extraordinarily attentive and solution-oriented but also showed a contagious enthusiasm for his job and the well-being of his guests. The entire team is very motivated. Above all, I enjoyed the good food - simply outstanding! The value for money exceeded my expectations. It is rare to find such a Western standard at such a fair price. The location in Kampot was good too. In the immediate vicinity, there were practical services such as motorcycle rental and a laundry, which made the stay even more pleasant. I highly recommend this hotel, especially to those who are looking for a touch of Western standard without having to dig deep into their pockets. A great find!

Only stayed for one night due to travel commitments but would have stayed longer. Very clean and good facilities. I've read that one of the downstairs rooms can be noisy, however, we were upstairs and had no issues at all. The AC/fan works perfectly and there is a great TV in the room. Perfect stay if you want to get away from busier/commercial hotels. William is friendly, accommodating and full of helpful suggestions. He remembered our names and went out of his way to make us feel welcome. Slightly more expensive that some private rooms in hostels, but much better value than a lot of similar rooms in other hotels. The standard of room matches the top hotels, but comes with a friendly, personalised service too that you simply won't find in bigger, commercial establishments. Would definitely return here if back in Kampot.

My old mate and I stayed at the magic sponge nearly 3weeks in September 2023,the welcome mat was certainly put at our feet the moment we arrived .William Hudson owner manager a massive smile and the coldest beer in kampot,. We were shown to our rooms so clean and comfortable with lovely decoration private bathroom and a balcony that is just beautiful.The choices of menu was unbelievable and the serves where very American sized, and very reasonably priced , the girls in the kitchen were just lovely and cleaned our rooms so beautifully,so much laughter and fun watching Williams daily movie,with ice cold beer and snacks.The magic sponge and kampot literally stole my heart I can’t wait to return,Thankyou William for making our stay with you so welcoming,like the terminator famously said I’ll be back🙏😍🥰❤️💕
