Kamuroan

Authentic Japanese stay. Highly recommend for those who want to experience Japanese culture via homestay. Host was very nice. Various house rules applied, if you’re more of a free style person, house rules could be a bit much as there are curfews and other rules at home. If that doesn’t bother you, I would definitely recommend!

WOW! There are no words to fully describe my stay at Kamuro An. This was a life changing experience. I have stayed at 5 & 4 star hotels but this was better than that … 10 star hotel. The government of Japan and Kyoto need to give her an honorary medal for her dedication to show her guests Japanese traditions, cuisine, and language. Kamuro An is also located at a prime location … walking distance from Kyoto’s popular Kiyomizu-Dera temple & Gion/Geiko neighborhood. The rooms and bathroom are extremely clean. The okami-san also cooks a very tasty breakfast for you each morning and even packed snacks for my tour.

What a perfect ryokan stay in Kyoto! I could not have had a better experience and have only the highest praise for Kamuroan. Okami-san is an incredibly gracious host that genuinely cares about her guests and their experience. In terms of wanting a traditional ryokan experience in a lovely Japanese home, my expectations were beyond met. I will consider staying at Kamuroan probably one of the top highlights of my time in Kyoto, let alone all of my trip in Japan. Definitely do the breakfast, if possible. It’s lovely. Additionally, make sure to take time to enjoy Kamuroan’s hospitality and the traditional, authentic aspects of your stay. Okami-san is very generous with her time and it was wonderful to chat with her. The house and rooms are really neat too - I loved getting to stay in a traditional home and, while obviously not western, I found everything very comfortable. Location is great; the home is close to bus stations and several top sights/neighborhoods in eastern Kyoto. The immediate area around Kamuroan is fairly sleepy in the evenings, but I think that adds to the experience and facilitates a relaxing stay.

Our family of four had a wonderful stay at Kamuro An. Our downstairs room was large, with space for four futons, a separate sitting area, and a sink/dressing room. The toilet, shower and bath were down the hall, which did not bother us at all. From Kamuro An, we could walk to Kiyomizu Dera temple, Gion and more sights on the east side of Kyoto. Best of all was the hospitality. Okami-san was so warm and kind, and she enjoyed teaching us about Japanese customs. Her breakfasts were beautiful and delicious. I had a Japanese grandmother to feed me when I was young, and it was fun to see my children enjoy some of the same foods that I loved as a child. Thank you so much for helping us make new family memories in your lovely home in Japan!
