Very disappointing on every level. A tatty place that looks grim from outside and tired and untouched inside. Reception is in what feels like a store room with boxes and bottles of wine all over, empty boxes and no atmosphere. Our room had wires and extension leads everywhere, curtains hanging off the rails and such a dowdy decor it was depressing. The mattress was in fact a slab of foam rubber laid over the original thin mattress. Really? They give £6 food vouchers towards breakfast or evening meal but don't get too excited about either option. A soulless place.

Hotel is generally okay. Rooms were comfortable, clean and had all we needed. The car park is, however, very small and can't accommodate all guests cars. We had to park on residential streets as all the towns long stay car parks were full too. There was also LOT of noise as there was a live rock band playing in the courtyard. They stopped at around 10.45 which was fine but it took until after midnight for the merry crowd to dissipate with a lot of singing outside and door banging in the hotel. Even with earplugs it was impossible to sleep until the early hours. The band was very good. Don't know what nights they have bands on but it looks like a regular event. So if you want a peaceful early night then go elsewhere. If you want a lively Friday night, tuck in. Earplugs are a must!

Stayed on 13 July we were given Room 16 ground floor. On entering we were pleasantly surprised as had a double bed, single bed and fresh bales of fluffy white towels… all good… until we went into the bathroom… obviously the cleaner had “forgotten” to clean the toilet. There was dried faeces all around the toilet bowl- looked like it had been there for a while… I was nearly sick… we went to try to find a member of staff to complain and ask for the toilet to be cleaned… however there was a music festival on so there were queues at indoor and outdoor bar and as there is no manned reception we had no choice but to go to the Spar shop and buy toilet cleaner etc and do it ourselves… not a great start to our stay. In fairness to the establishment the beds were comfortable and bed linen good quality. When we checked out this morning the lady behind the bar asked if we’d enjoyed our stay… I explained the positives first and then went on to tell her about the dreadful state of the toilet and suggested that they speak to their cleaner. She did apologise but offered no real explanation other than it must have been the weekend cleaner… no reduction in the £105 room rate and no offer to cover costs of toilet cleaning products. I have travelled all over the world and stayed in a number of interesting places but I have never experienced anything as poor as this. I would not recommend staying here and the staff don’t appear that interested in true customer service. So disappointed.

This hotel is very well positioned within Llangollen and for us it was a good choice for leaving the car and exploring. The building is old and as such all the little quirks and imperfections are expected. The room was comfortable and clean and we slept well. But if you want perfection then this isn’t the place for you. The floor of the room bowed in the middle so it felt as if you were permanently drunk! The shower was poor, little more than a dribble. Easily rectified if a little money was spent. The doors to both the room and the bathroom were ill fitting and the windows didn’t open properly. We had dinner in the wine bar which was good. Staff were really friendly but very under pressure and because of this the service let it down. Breakfast was chaotic and took over a hour to arrive from taking our order. More staff needed!! Having said that we would stay here again as we had a brilliant weekend in this beautiful town in wales.

My friend and I were on a driving weekend in Wales and booked a one night stay at Gales. The bedroom was ok, but a little more shabby than shabby chic. The bed was comfortable but the room was too hot at night. We chose to have our evening meal in the bar. My chicken schnitzel was very good. However the service was a bit hit and miss. Someone came to ask how our meal was after we had both finished it, which is a bit later than you'd typically expect. We waited about half an hour for someone to ask if we wanted dessert. Eventually I had to go and find someone to ask if we could order dessert. By the time our order was taken, there were only two portions of dessert left, neither of which we wanted, so we didn't bother. We were told that breakfast on Sunday started from 8.00am. Since we had a long drive ahead of us, we came down at 8.00am to find the bar locked and no sign of any staff. Eventually the chef turned up and said that although he could cook for us, he had no idea how to turn the lights on in the bar. With no obvious sign of any other staff, we took the decision to leave without breakfast. All a bit amateurish really.

Perfect for location but room dated and tired. The noise from the wine bar downstairs kept us up until gone 2am so if you’re looking for peace don’t stay here. Breakfast not included in already expensive price, and with so many other hotels maybe need to up their game. Staff are lovely and friendly but won’t book to stay here again.

In need of TLC and a coat of paint. Blinds falling off, concrete into main bedroom missing(dangerous),door handles held on with big screws sticking out, carpet tired and worn and living room is dark and depressing. Without going all Lawrence Lewellyn Bowen on you such a small dark room does not need dark leather couches, brown carpet and black painted beams. Another issue was breakfast, it clearly states you get a £6 voucher towards breakfast but this does not apply to the cottage as it is self catering. This is not clear on the website. We only booked the cottage for more room as we had a dog and thought having your own courtyard would be useful. The courtyard was full of scaffolding, ladders, junk and loads of plants. The plants I could easily put up with and there was an old bistro table and 2 chairs amongst everything. If I was to stay again (doubtful) I would just get a room or suite.
