Hotel Victoria

This hotel has pluses and minuses. I booked it for the price and Lake view. Most to the reviews here are correct in some ways. The old owner does walk around smoking a cigar (mostly in the restaurant downstairs), and his baby photos are everywhere. It's a bit creepy. However, we found our room to be very clean and comfortable AND we had a balcony with the promised lake view which was spectacular! We also had a bathtub, which you don't find often in the mid-range hotels. It was clean and the water nice and hot, although the drain didn't work well. The thick glass doors kept the noise out at night and we slept well. We found the hotel perfectly safe. Good thing we didn't read the rest of these reviews before booking! I wouldn't recommend Lord Tillingdon's restaurant below the hotel however; the food and wine were so-so and too expensive for what we got.

Hotel is actually really old. Bedrooms are very simple and we can see that the place is not well kept. Everything looks cheap and not changes for years and years (room doesn’t seem so comfy, minibar has been removed but there is still the logo and the whole decoration is so old and not well maintained). There is also a cigarette smell all over the hotel from the reception to the floors. I would say the highlights of the place are: nice view from the lake view bedroom, double-glazed windows (very calm), easy room service, easy access (5 min by bus to center) and adorable and kind employees always super helpful. However, it super disappointing to have such a beautiful building not well maintained, left alone and badly exploited.

This hotel has a great location but from there on the pricing reflects the standard. Some reception staff were rude and totally disengaged. The owner walks around shirtless smoking a cigar. The hotel appears to be a family shrine with nothing updated since at least 1970. It appears the owner thinks he can “fix & renovate” himself. Eg: the balcony has been spray painted until the can of paint ran out, the minibar sign is upside down (there is no minibar), broken hooks are not removed from the wall, rather another hook is drilled, old air conditioners adorn the walls, old functioning air conditioners have drip buckets under them right next to electrical wires - we had to empty the bucket three times during the night to avoid flooding. Bizarrely there are holographic smiley face stickers on bathroom tiles, outdated menus and antique furniture. The most off putting was the tablecloths and cereal containers inside the breakfast room were covered in bird poop as the owner feeds the sparrows. The balcony tables and chairs are covered in bird poop. This hotel has the potential to be amazing for its location and it’s historic architecture but in its current state we can’t recommend it.

We arrived and instantly felt unsafe. Our door had no lock, and the hotel did not feel secure. The room itself was dirty and smelled musty. Bathroom was very dirty with creepy hooks and no toilet paper. There were mirrors and about 45 pictures of this same random baby EVERYWHERE. Very weird. I almost always rate everything 5 stars but this was unacceptable. As two young girls traveling alone, we left and found a different hotel. We were told that we would be refunded but have not gotten the money back and have heard nothing.
