Riad la VIE

The best part of the Riad is the staff and the owner. They are so friendly and supportive and trying their best to make you feel home. Great job. And the location is amazing. A hidden gem next to the main market. The rooftop is an oasis especially in the evening.

The located, clean Riad and staff are excellent. Unfortunately, my room was extremely small, no TV, no kettle, no pool, and 0 entertainment. I booked a half board holiday, but I ended having to go out to get additional breakfast and dinner every day as the meals were so small. And I am not a big eater and a petite person. The meals were unappetising and extremely basic, so I couldn’t eat a lot of the meals provided. You don’t have options or choice about the meals. So if you are expecting a buffet style breakfast and dinner, you’ll be very disappointed. You get the same thing for breakfast every day. I have never experienced half board holidays where you have to go out to buy food. I spent 7 nights there disappointed with everything.

This place and the staff were all amazing. We loved everything from the beautiful rooms to the wonderful meals on the terrace. Attention to detail was appreciated even daily housekeeping which is rare in so many places. So much more interesting than staying in a hotel. The owner and her staff were very helpful with anything we needed. I would definitely stay here again. It was hard to get back life in the US after being spoiled at this lovely place.

My wife and I spent a full week at Riad La Vie and are firmly resolved to return. We were met by Abdul on our arrival late evening in Place des Ferblantiers and guided by him for the 5 minute stroll to the Riad. Throughout our week Abdul provided numerous insights into places to visit and what we should expect to pay for basics such a petit taxis. He was very ably backed up by Sharif. In fact all staff were the epitome of courtesy and hospitality. The Riad arranged an excellent walking tour for us on our first morning which was informative and extremely well guided. Riad La Vie is located in the southern Medina, conveniently close to Place des Ferblantiers (a 5minute stroll), and 10 minutes from Jamma El Fna. We very much enjoyed being in the Medina and could not have wished for a better location than Riad La Vie. It may have been our first visit to Marrakech and Riad la Vie but we very much hope it will not be our last. Thank you Abdul, Sharif and the whole team for making our holiday such a memorable one. I stayed at Riad La vie for 2 nights in September 2023. All communication was done through email, which I was contacted by the owner; Izdi who was so helpful prior to my upcoming stay. I booked the standard deluxe double, but Izdi said the reservation came through as a twin but I emailed to request a double bed so she kindly gave me a complimentary upgrade to the Agadir room, so thank you very much for that. :) I was also asked by Izdi if I wanted a hard or soft mattress, I didn’t mind and Izdi was able to answer any questions that I had before my arrival, regarding sahara tours, airport transfers and general info about the riad. I had arranged an airport transfer with Riad La vie, upon arrival at Marrakech airport, I did worry if the driver was coming as I had to wait around for some time finding the driver. He didn’t speak good English but luckily I know some French so tried to speak French with the driver ha. When I had arrived at the riad, the driver had to stop on the busy main road, then had to walk to the riad as cars cannot access the riad. Some other guy took me to the riad and kindly helped me with my luggage. The riad is well located, just outside the medina within walking distance to the main Jemaa Al Fnaa square and other attractions such as Bahia palace, Badi palace and Koutoubia. I found the area to be quite safe, there was a currency exchange nearby in case you need to exchange some dirhams, plenty of places to eat, the riad is located just inside one of the side streets from the main street. Upon entering the riad, I was warmly greeted by a man who worked there, the room was ready at check in and he helped me carry my luggage to my room. My room was located on the top floor, I did notice that there was no lift and lots of stairs especially to get to the top floor. If you have any mobility issues, please be mindful with this, but it wasn’t a problem for me. When I reached the top, I was quite impressed with the open spaces, decor of the riad and I liked the view overlooking the main focal point on the main ground floor. There was also an open terrace with lovely views. When I entered my room, it was very nice, clean, modern and I liked the Moroccan touches such as the pouffe, tiles, carpet, décor etc. Room was well equipped with towels, robes, air con was working and wifi. I did notice that there wasn’t a television but I think that’s part of the charm of not having one, so my time in the room was very quiet. But that wasn’t an issue as I just played some music on my phone connected to the wifi. After a day of exploring, I returned back to my room in the evening. I was greeted by a different member of staff, a kind gentleman; Othman, who was one of the night staff. Since I was only staying for 2 days, I wanted to take advantage of the facilities and used the pool in the main reception. Home! From the moment we walked in, it just felt like home. We were welcomed immediately and relaxed with fresh mint tea while we took in the splendor and craftsmanship of the riad. The staff is fantastic and really wants you to enjoy your time not only at the riad but also Marrakech in general. The rooms have the most comfortable beds, great hot water in the showers, and A/C was great when we needed it. The room size was good as we just needed a place to put our bags, sleep and take a shower. There is too much to enjoy at the riad, Marrakech and Morocco to stay in the room. You have to schedule a hammam with a massage afterwards, as it will blow your mind!! Don't know when I will be back but I will definitely come back.
