Hotel Riu Palace Meloneras

A place to unwind and relax. The pools were amazing and heated to a good temperature so going for a swim was a pleasure. I have been to other hotels in March in the Canaries and they have had wonderful pools but absolutely freezing so can’t go in them. Very important to me as I like to have a morning swim before breakfast. I would return to the hotel just for the pools. Everything else was very good, the food, service, cleanliness. Good size rooms with a very comfortable bed and lots of storage space. Lovely balcony with good views. We were on the 3rd floor with a side sea view room. The hotel has a feeling of grandeur especially in the reception area. My one gripe is that we got the RIU transfer to the hotel which took about an hour which was acceptable but going to the airport they transfer was going to pick us up 5 hours before our flight. We did not want to hang about the airport for that length of time so got the hotel transfer which cost us 55 euro.

We loved this hotel, which is in a great position next to the coast and a few minutes walk from shops, restaurants, the Lighthouse and the dunes. Our room was in one of the small separate buildings in the grounds and had all we needed. One negative point - the hotel requires a payment of 26€ for the safe, which we felt was out of place in a 5* establishment. Good food in all the restaurants. Good service all round. Entertainment each evening (mostly 2 different acts per night) in comfortable surroundings. Lots of sun loungers so no problems in finding nicely situated ones, even after others had "booked" their places with towels, etc (valid for a stay mid-May). Friendly, helpful staff all round.

Just returned from a lovely week in the Riu Palace but not a five star hotel, we would rate it four star. Our room which we upgraded to a sea view was lovely and well equipped, cleaned and bed turned down every night which was great with towels changed on request. There are plenty of pools to choose from and we never had any problems getting a sun bed at any time of the day. Hotel buffet restaurant always had lots of different themed areas and menu was changed on a daily basis, but two big negatives which in our opinion makes it a four star was firstly the warmth of the food which on some occasions was verging on being cold and way below the temperatures food should be served, during our visit this was a topic discussed many times with other guests during our stay. The second negative and I see it was highlighted before was the amount of broken crockery used during our stay and after being pointed out was never put aside, not five star on both negatives. I should point out that all the staff were excellent and work extremely hard, especially during busy times, and no one ever passes you without saying hello, a lovely touch, and there are a couple of other Restaurants in the hotel you can visit when on a HB basis. The hotel is well situated and access to the promenade is very easy and the bus station which we used to visit Porto Rico and Porto Mogan is only ten minutes away, buses are very frequent and relatively cheap and both places which are lovely are a must visit when in the area. Another must do is attend the Riu party night on a Friday evening in the adjoining Riu hotel, we had a great night, and it was attended by all ages. All in all this is a lovely four star hotel with plenty of hard working staff but needs a couple of changes to make it Five star.

Another enjoyable stay at Riu Palace Meloneras, as you walk into reception, you feel that you are entering a top quality hotel, reception staff very polite and check in was very easy, we arrived late and the restaurant had closed, so we were served a cold plate meal of meats, cheeses, bread and salad which was pleasant. The hotel overall is good but a few things are becoming a little tired and need a bit of attention. Cleanliness is top level, with housekeeping still on duty late at night, food is very good, but I feel that some things have gone down a little. All staff are very pleasant and professional A special thank you to Christian and Annara in the restaurant, all the servers in the blu de mar bar, Jesus, Alejandro in the rose bar, Jeanette, one of the bar managers making sure everyone was looked after in the bar, our housekeepers cleaning our room and the hotel. Overall a big thank you to everyone for another pleasant stay at this hotel.

Quality hotel that we will always come back to. Perfect place to relax and unwind. Would it hesitate to recommend.
