The Harbour

On the plus side the hotel is in a nice location right on the harbour. The staff were very friendly and helpful. However we discovered why the menu is displayed outside but with no prices! We had a cocktail each before dinner, a 175ml glass of wine and no deserts, but the bill was £136 for the two of us. The wine and drinks were simply too expensive and this was probably the first time we have not ordered a bottle of wine in a restaurant in many years! I had whitebait starter and then a small “fillet of beef” which I couldn’t eat because it was not cooked as I asked, was dry, chewy and tasteless. When I told the waitress she just said “oh sorry” and that was it. I was sick all the next day (today!). The bedroom was nice but very small and we could hear every word from the room next door till very late, including ‘toilet sounds’. We had booked breakfast but cancelled it after dinner and left early morning. We walked through town both before and after dinner and noticed all the other restaurants were crammed full whereas this one was probably less than 25% occupied. It’s a shame as the people were very nice and it could have easily been so much better. I have been in the restaurant business and the wine business and have also advised hotels and restaurants, and spend a lot of time in hotels around the country and internationally, so I could see the amazing potential! Interestingly we stayed in a Premier Inn the previous night en route, which was right on the main A30, but quiet, comfortable, larger room, nice dinner, decent bottle of wine and 2 cocktails - at half the cost!

Check in was easy -small hotel with just six rooms.really nice and comfy.spotless clean and tidy..massive spa bath in the unsuit.staff really friendly and helpful can't fault them at all..amazing sea views breathtaking..highly recommend for couples and family's.only issue we had the room.was really cold at night time.

Six of us had an evening dinner at the restaurant. Excellent food, as expected, at a full price. We found the service a little awkward at times which spoiled the overall experience. However, good for a treat.... the wine list was comprehensive and we were very relaxed!

Fresh crab sandwich, fresh mussels, chilled white wine, gentle breeze, warm sunshine, sea air. The only thing that you would add is a WONDERFUL VIEW and, of course, they have that as well! In our opinion the BEST IN NEWQUAY, set slightly above but close to the colourful life of the harbour with Towan, Great Western, Tolcarne and Lusty Glaze beaches beyond. My wife and I are privileged to have stayed here before and recently returned from second visit, this time with our daughter and my sister. We were met with friendly service and generous, warm hospitality throughout. Costa deserves a special mention and of course Aaron and his wife Suzanne are both fab as before. Aaron is the perfect host! Very interested but not intrusive, making it feel like home to us. The breakfast room is light and airy opening onto a terrace, the dining room is contemporary, comfortable and both are matched with exceptional, fresh food and of course beautiful views. The six rooms all named after the Gig boats, have balconies and ours (No.1 “Dove”) situated on the end also enjoyed great views from inside to two sides. My daughter and sister’s family room (No.6 “Treffry”) was perfect with separate sleeping areas and big balcony. Would you stay here again?Of course and, all being well, we will. And if you’re not staying here but in Newquay, get on that terrace for a bit of lunch or in for informal fine dining in the evening. You will not be disappointed. Only been home two days and already looking forward to our next visit.

Stayed previously and happy to be back. Views out of this world and only beaten by the excellent and friendly service from EVERYONE. Had a morning swim in the harbour and then the best breakfast you could ask for. Kettle like my haircut needs replacing.

We have just returned from a week's break with family and close friends celebrating my 60th birthday and our 40th wedding anniversary. The 12 of us took over all six rooms; me and husband stayed in Dove... the same dual aspect room that we had our honeymoon in in 1984! Every room is charming, and of course, as they all have a balcony overlooking the harbour and Newquay beaches, the views are second to none. Perfect for watching the sunrise which several of the party did. Aaron, Suzanne, and all their staff could not have been more accommodating and friendly. They told us to treat the hotel as if it were our home. And it felt like it was! We had some superb meals in the restaurant - the crab linguine was to die for. There were many other dishes equally lovely; Aaron changes the menu frequently depending on the fish/shellfish caught daily in the harbour below. Staying at the Harbour Hotel was worth every penny, and I would return in a heartbeat.
