Mount Etjo Safari Lodge

This lodge is a truly nostalgic and awesome place. It perfectly resembles the imagination of Africa to people who were born before 1980, provided that they have never set foot on the continent before. That being said, the rooms are huge, the garden, the swimming pool, and the setting at the artificial lake are all stunning. The food was not too shabby, either. Remarkably, the safari game drive with Orlando was outstanding, and probably the best we had in Namibia. This lodge is popular with tour groups and caters to this audience, with having with hippos on its compound, which are not endemic to this area and flamingos with clipped wings. For some, the fact that Okonjati Game Reserve allows hunting might be a no-no. That being said, we really enjoyed our stay and wished we had a second night there.

It was my second time in Mt Etjo Safari Lodge. Always amazing! It was definitely not my last trip. See you next year!

Beautifully situated lodge in a very large and species-rich private reserve. Excellent service, friendly staff and great support with any problems that may arise, such as getting stuck on access roads during the rainy season (experienced first hand)!

This place has an Old African vibe, nothing is modern, but it takes you back to the roots and traditions of a true African experience, we met the Manger Hencu who was amazing, professional and friendly. Emma was also very kind and our children loved her. Thank you for making our visit special.

It's a quick trip from the City of Windhoek. On arrival we saw hippo, impala, Waterbuck, springbok, giraffe, pelicans, flamingos. The birds and animals live comfortable at the dam in front of your lodge. This gives you a full daylight view from sunrise to sunset. A 3 hour game drive offers Rhino, Elephant and a great selection of buck plus giraffe. A night drive to an enclosure gives you an opportunity of lions feeding within meters !! We counted over 30 species of birds ( to our knowledge). Besides the very cooling stone rooms, beautiful pool and superb cuisine,your trip to Mount Edjo will be your most memorable one in Namibia.

When you first arrive, you instantly relax. The staff are nice and helpful and while it feels like a mom and pop kind of place, it's run like a first rate hotel. Check in was easy and we found our room quickly. It was one of the family rooms and it was really spacious with a beautiful shower, a jacuzzi tub, comfy furnishings and a bed I could have spent a week in. They thought of every detail and it made for a truly lovely experience. On the river across from our room you could sit on benches and watch/listen to the pod of hippos, see elephants, a variety of antelope and pelicans - without ever going on a game drive. The pool was relaxing and we felt so relaxed and welcomed there. The food was very good, not sure who their pastry chef is but they are incredible. The nightly soup was a delight, each bowl was delicious! The waitstaff were very attentive and nice. We went on two game drives, one in the afternoon and one in the morning - both were amazing in their own right but since it was chilly in the morning - the afternoon drive had more animals out for viewing. But, there were other things about the morning drive that made it special. The guides were awesome and had interesting facts about the animals I had never heard. All in all it was an amazing stay and I would return in a heartbeat!! Great job Mt. Etjo!
