We went up to the mountains, for just one night. We wished we made it 2 as there was plenty to see and do and the country lodge was beautiful.. Our room was huge with a lovely seating area as well as an enormous bed and it looked out over immaculate gardens, and beautiful pool, surrounded by the mountains. We would loved to have relaxed in the garden for another day, in hindsight as the weather was glorious and it would have been very restful after a rather busy schedule previously. The owner was very helpful giving us ideas of where to go together with where to go on our next stop. The food was good.

Set a short way from the highway this is a lovely and peaceful location. The pool which we had to ourselves for a couple of hours was very welcome after a two hour drive on a day of 39 degrees. The receptionist while friendly and welcoming was quite pushy about sending us to an ostrich farm. Our room was large and comfy but I agree with a previous review about meagre toiletry supplies which were not great quality. Also it’s a shame there was no fridge to keep water or drinks cool. The honesty bar was ok but no atmosphere had you wanted to relax inside and the pool bar looks long abandoned. Dinner choice was fine with good friendly service and plentiful food. The table doesn’t benefit from the plastic flower arrangements especially as at breakfast a few simple fresh blooms looked so much classier. Breakfast consisted of a small buffet and freshly cooked items s from the kitchen.

What a fabulous place! Altes Landhaus is a wonderful, traditionally furnished country lodge in a peaceful location and ideally situated for a visit to the Cango Caves and several ostrich farms, one of which we visited. That said it was difficult to tear ourselves away from the tranquility of the garden and outdoor pool. Marcus and his team could not have been friendlier and made every effort to ensure all our needs were met. We enjoyed wonderful food for both breakfast and dinners. We would highly recommend this gem of a place.

A lovely guesthouse in a beautiful setting. Very friendly and helpful hosts. Supper was delicious and the breakfast too. I'd definitely recommend Altes Landhaus

The Altes Landhaus breathes authenticity and history. The rooms are very large and super comfortable, classy and offer all you could need. The veranda on which breakfast and dinner is served is cozy and the swimming pool just perfect to cool down and swim a few laps. Birds everywhere and location just perfect. Lots to do in the area from Meerkats viewing to the Cango Caves and Ostrich farms. Definitely will return one day!

An amazing stay! The host and hostess were friendly and helpful with fantastic staff. The food was excellent, the room was extremely comfortable and the facilities great which included shaded parking. Will definitely be back!

Very relaxing hotel. Large comfortable room, spotlessly clean and well appointed. Wonderful, friendly and helpful staff. Good food, especially breakfast. Would thoroughly recommend. Enjoyed the Meerkat Safari at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge in spite of the early start.
