The hotel's four-person room is larger than expected! The hotel's interior environment is better than expected, and there is also an open-air hot spring.
The receptionist at the front desk is an old man, his English is not very good, his attitude is average, and the service experience is not very good. But based on the cost-effectiveness, it is still recommended!

Baba Yaga modernRelax, relax, relax. Ryokan.
Breakfasts and dinners in traditional style are great. Onsen - indoor and outdoor pool, in the evenings we watched martens running, silence. The room is simply huge for Japan (about 40 sq.m). They give out traditional clothes. Nearby is a transport stop (we went for a ride to the Happo area, Hakuba 47, Iwataki) and an information center.

Guest UserThe hotel doesn't have any restaurants; if you want to eat, it's about a 5-minute drive or a 10-minute walk. The rooms are spacious, but there's no table, which is a bit inconvenient. The hotel has a hot spring, and the environment is very nice and comfortable; it's worth staying at.

It was raining on the day we arrived, but it wasn't cold and we were able to sleep peacefully in our private room. It would be nice if the shower had a little more hot water, but it was okay. I think it's a good place to stay before climbing a mountain. The staff were kind and explained things to us carefully, which made me feel at ease.
Shinano Omachi was a town I had been following on Instagram and wanted to visit.

Location is on the top of the mountain, not very convenient
But self-driving tour, it doesn't matter
4.5 hour drive from Narita Airport to the hotel
Check in is already more than 12 am
The hotel staff checked in for us after get off work
But it is snowing, there are mountain roads in the snow that are not open and there is no enclosure.
Mistake walked in because the mountain road that was not open did not shovel snow
The car is snowing.
Haocai is not far from the hotel
Hotel staff will help us soon trailer
Hotel service is very good, very satisfied
There is a cooking stove and tableware in the room
Very convenient.
The snow outside the hotel is so beautiful
I don't want to leave

O.K. MAC
I’ve stayed at many ryokans throughout my travels—often making up half of each trip—but this one felt a bit different.
It seemed to be run by just one person, who I assume is the owner. Everything was self-service, which might be understandable considering it was the most affordable option among the ryokans in the area.
Most amenities required an extra fee, such as towels. Payment was made by dropping coins into a basket and making your own change, which wasn’t very convenient—especially since I didn’t carry much cash.
One thing I appreciated was the luggage delivery service. I was able to leave my bag at the lobby before check-out and have it sent to Toyama Station (for about 4,000 JPY, cash only).
What stood out was the creativity in the shared spaces. There were several common rooms designed for relaxing and spending time—perfect if you’re traveling with friends. You could play ping pong, read books, watch TV, or use the canteen, which had a microwave and dishes available.
They even had coin-operated massage chairs and a small fitness room.
However, I must mention two important downsides:
1. Limited nearby dining options – Many restaurants shown as open on Google Maps were actually closed. The only one that was open had extremely slow service—I waited nearly an hour for dinner.
2. Insects—large ones – Unfortunately, I encountered big insects in my room, which made it hard to sleep. (He even provided insect-catch tape for me while introduce the room) I stayed awake most of the night, worrying it might come back—especially stressful since I had to get up early the next morning to catch a bus to Ogizawa.
Minds you, stairs only, need to carry your luggage down by yourself.
Overall, while it offers good value for the area and has unique communal features, this ryokan may not suit travelers who prefer full service, cashless payment, or guaranteed comfort.

VeniceCIt’s just a guesthouse but everything was clean. The only thing is there’s no key to lock the door. No towel and amenities all be given. I think the area is too safe hence the owner thinks no keys neededi
