Great location, will definitely come again for a hule trip. Had to keep the window open as the carpet was a bit smelly, it could definutely use a cleanup. But ocerall a pleasant stay !

Due to the road closure, we arrived late at night and were not allowed to check in, and we did not refund the money. The service attitude was terrible.

YHA Helvellyn is a fantastic little hostel nestled above the village of Glenridding on the ascent to Helvellyn. It’s perfectly located for tackling it’s namesake fell but there are also lots of other stunning hikes to be enjoyed from this base as well as the beautiful Ullswater lake and the pretty Glenridding Beck which is right out the back of the hostel. The hostel is exceptionally well managed with a really warm and welcoming team who can’t do enough for you! It’s clean and cosy and has all the facilities you need for a comfortable stay.

Overall an outstanding YH. Spotlessly clean throughout, especially the showers and toilets and all communal areas. Very homely with fantastic views and just an absolute delight to stay in. The staff were super freindly welcoming and helpful. We opted for the cooked breakfast and food was superb. Location is great, we walked straight out of the door and straight onto a choice of paths up Helvyllen and beyond. Fantastic! Sadly only stayed 1 night but they kindly let us leave car parked for a full day's walking after we checked out. The little shop selling ice-cream and cold drinks after a days hike was very welcome The track up Is a little pot holed but all part of the charm just take your time . We booked as members so the extra saving on the already low price made incredible value. If you are not a member join now!

Sorry YHA people but this place was poor. Our reservation of 3 beds was not honoured and whilst the staff helped us out by putting us in another room for the first night and giving us a spare mattress for the second there were other problems to consider: The English Breakfast was poor, the whole place smelt musty and is in need of some care, You don't expect to much in the way of WC's and showers in any hostel though this dipped below the usual YHA standards, dissapointing.

Stayed at YHA Helvellyn for four days and absolutely loved it. It got busy over Easter but everyone was relaxed, kind and friendly. The team running the hostel know what they are doing, and they are doing a great job. The Youth Hostel is brilliantly located half way up the hills, and there are plenty of walks starting right at its door step. Tour up the Hevellyn on a sunny day one of best walks in the Lake District. Will come again!

I had a fantastic stay at YHA Helvellyn! The hostel was spotlessly clean throughout, from the dorm rooms to the shared facilities. It’s clear the staff take a lot of pride in maintaining a welcoming and hygienic environment. The team were also incredibly friendly and helpful — always happy to offer advice on walking routes or just have a cheerful chat. The food was another highlight: tasty, hearty, and perfect after a long day of hiking in the surrounding mountains. I’d definitely recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a comfortable and friendly base in the Lake District!

What a fantastic place. The most amazing atmosphere. The staff are so lovely, and can’t do enough for you. I’m gluten free and the kitchen were able to make me a gluten free pesto pasta. There really is something quite special about this place and I will definitely be back
