Brooklands Guest House ★★★★

📍 2 Portland Pl, Penrith

"Stayed here whilst playing in a golf tournament. Beautifully furnished property. Very comfortable room with small fridge, kettle and coffee machine. Hot breakfast was freshly cooked to order, plenty of choice of juices, cereal, fruit and pastries. Sue has put a lot of thought in making this b&b a step above the rest - one of which was linen napkins at breakfast!! We will not hesitate to stay again."

Brooklands Guest House ★★★★

"My friends and I stayed for 5 nights at the end of July 26. We had a lovely stay. Sue our host was fabulous, so welcoming and helpful. This guest house is a gem, it’s gorgeous, so tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. It’s evident Sue outs her heart and soul into running Brooklands, nothing is too much. The breakfasts were delicious with plenty of choices. We stayed in the top floor attic rooms, they were comfortable. We had a few flights of stairs to reach the rooms, definitely worth it. A wonderful stay , I can understand why people return to stay here."

Macdonald Leeming House ★★★★

"Amongst the lakes, I thought Ullswater is the nicest in terms of view and serenity. Macdonald Leeming House has a peek view of the lake, together with a big grass patch. I opted to upgrade to a lake view room as the other side faces some shrubs, I was told. Room size wise is decent. For the price, I expected a bit more amenities like shower cap and slippers. The hotel was not receptive as there were no replies to my queries sent to the email listed on their website and through trip.com. When I clarified, the reception said the address I sent to were invalid? I did not like the food at the Regency Restaurant. Options were limited and my ham steak was over salty."

Shap Wells Hotel ★★★

"The service was good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our experience of the room was adequate, however we could not use the shower it was impossible to have a shower due to the low ceiling so we could not stand up straight. I personally could not use the bath due to myself falling a few years back and having a complete new elbow since this incident I am very cautious of getting into a bath. This being the case I did not have a proper clean. This was not good has we had been hiking and really wanted to get ourselves cleaned up and changed. The staff were very friendly and helpful and you could not fault the food at all it was excellent."
