High Street Living Motel
4.3/5101 Reviews
The couple managing the motel were so lovely and kind. The motel was a great base for our week long family holiday around Marlborough, we were in the 2 bedroom unit which was set up well for our family with its own private fenced courtyard being a huge plus. A portacot and highchair was supplied for our youngest. Warm heaters in each room (which were used on a couple wet and cold days) the kitchen had everything we needed for cooking meals (there was also a BBQ in the courtyard we could have used). The children were also given some Easter treats on arrival. Parking is a little bit tight when busy but easy enough to reverse out as there's a large area on the side of the road to turn around. We loved our stay and will likely be back again 🙂
The Villa

Backpacker Inn, we have an independent bathroom room, the room is small, the conditions are limited, we must be mentally prepared. However, this price is also very cost-effective. The surrounding facilities are very convenient. There is a good baking shop next door, and the supermarket is also on the side. A 10-minute walk from the ferry to Wellington, the intercity bus site is also there.
The Gables B&B
4.2/532 Reviews
We are travelling throughout New Zealand and have pre-booked accommodation every couple of days. On Thursday 7th March we took the ferry from North Island to South Island and booked into The Gables B&B for 2 nights. Things didn’t get off to a great start when the lady who met us stated we couldn’t park our car on site, only to later retract this and ‘allow’ us to park for one night only. We were shown to our room, a largish room with a double bed covered in 11 pillows and cushions and a single bed also covered in cushions and pillows. Much fuss was made of the offer of a small glass of wine from the Marlborough area. Our bathroom was across the landing, which we were unable to lock. Our room had no water or water glasses, no tea tray, no TV (we understand this is considered a historic B&B) and no bin. However, the whole room and house smelt really strongly of lilies, the smell was overpowering. We were tired so went to bed reasonably early, so were awake at 6.00am the following morning. My husband went to the communal lounge and dining room to get some tea at about 7.00am as we were gasping for a drink and there was nothing in the room! He was promptly told off by the host/proprietor who stated there was no access to this communal facility until 8.00am. He was then accused of waking up other guests. At breakfast the host then accused a Danish couple of breaking a window in a very aggressive manner, however, they had shown us a picture of the window hanging off on one hinge with a gale blowing through. It clearly needed maintenance. We had seen enough and decided to leave immediately, so packed up and left. We did not request a refund for the night we didn’t stay, but our accommodation provider did raise this only to be refused. The host stated we should have told him of the issues we had before leaving. We disagree, the whole experience, coupled with the stench from the lilies, meant we just wanted to get away.
AAA Marlin Motel
4.1/575 Reviews
What a surprise, don't be fooled by the age of this motel, built in the 1960s and still going strong. For comfort, cleanliness and a very warm welcome from the owners. We were pleasantly surprised. This is a full equipt motel with all cooking appliances and this came in very handy when we have gifted a Cray Fish from one of the locals. Comfort is the rule here with great bathroom and toilet facilities in the room
Sequoia Lodge Backpackers
3.7/5103 Reviews
Off-street parking, clean bathrooms, comfy bed w/ clean sheets, cheerful paint and decor, good space heater, host very friendly and welcoming, nice indoor and outdoor common areas (though chairs/couches looks like they could use a cleaning). Carpet and baseboards in room rather dirty as well. Could just be consequence of weather/season/COVID, but overall the place felt a bit tired and bleak. Several other people staying here, but older and not especially social - almost feels like they live here and I'm intruding (which, fair enough - times have been hard for the tourism industry and locals alike - just FYI depending on your vibe preferences).
