Beautiful place, great rooms, design, food and ambience. Great hosts, they even took us on a beautiful walk. The scenery is stunning. It was covered in snow whilst we were there, it was like Narnia. Spending time with friends in such a magical place was a great start to the year.

From the moment of entering the hotel and being greeted by Sarah with a big smile to the moment of leaving feeling very happy and satisfied after a wonderful comfortable stay, we loved it here. Beautiful room with stunning views across the moors, nice thoughtful touches throughout hotel and a lovely breakfast to send us on our way.

We booked a post Christmas stay here as a treat but were unfortunately left very disappointed. The hotel is mid refurbishment and the room we stayed in (The Redmire) is on the floor yet to be modernised. After checking in there was an issue with the door meaning we were locked in and had to call reception for someone to come and apply WD40 to enable the latch to work properly. Although this worked to a degree, the locking and unlocking of the room proved very tricky for the remainder of our stay. It appeared as though we may not have been the only guests to struggle (see photo of the door), we also bumped in a gentleman in the corridor who said he was having similar issues with his room. We used the shower once, avoiding it completely the next day due to the trickle of water but mainly the gross amount of mold around the shower trim (see photos). There were also brown (albeit small) marks on the ceiling that looked like water damage. Some of the window frames were also mouldy and quite rotten in places. We didn't stay for dinner as the menu wasn't to our taste but were told the food was really good. We did stay for breakfast which was fine. Cannot fault the staff who were welcoming and very friendly, the manager was empathetic when I complained, offering a £50 discount which i accepted. On reflection however we still paid £150 for a room that was unhygienic and very tired. The decor is interesting...not what you'd expect of a property this age, my personal preference would be to style it to complement the period features. Instead there's a 'bougie' theme which looks cheap in places and in my opinion misses the mark.

We stayed here at the end of February for the weekend, which was a present from my children for my 60th birthday back in September. The hotel is impressive in appearance set bang in the middle of the village so is easy to locate. The surrounding scenery is breathtaking and the location perfect for walkers (which we are not). On entering the hotel we were greated by the manager Simon who was very friendly and welcoming. He checked us in and explained how the service in the hotel ran and showed us to our room located on the top floor. The sale of the hotel is boutique. With opulent decor and furniture. We loved it. Our room was very comfortable with a huge bed and views which stretched out over the hills at the front. Lovely to wake up to. We decided to dine in the Brasserie on the Friday night and were really pleased we did. The food was absolutely delicious and a very high standard and the service impeccable and very attentive. We retired and had a great night's sleep. The breakfast again did not disappoint with a great selection, standard with local produce and service. We made a day of visiting local attractions and came back to a wonderful afternoon tea. Again delicious and lots of it which we couldn't finish. All in all we had a fantastic time, this hotel is a real gem we would definitely stay again and would recommend it without hesitation. Thank you

We did not stay overnight in the hotel, but instead we treated a friend for his birthday to the three course Sunday lunch. Oh my God how delicious it was, probably the best meal we’ve had in a very long time. The hotel is five star and certainly so is the food. Great value as well at £23 for two courses and £28 for three at that price, we all had to go for the three! Hubby and I had a soft goat cheese and beetroot salad to start, our friend had smoked trout. All the starters were absolutely delicious for the main courses. Will and our friend had the roast chicken dinner, I had fried Sea Bream in lemon and caper butter. All, the food was top-notch. The Sea Bream was cooked perfectly with crispy skin and flaky light flesh. Hay and Friend said the chicken dinner was beautiful, especially the rich gravy and the roast potatoes! Deserts were a white chocolate and Baileys mousse, warm chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and the cheeseboard. Again absolutely delicious. We were stuffed! The staff are all lovely and so accommodating and attentive. There is a very very wine list as well as a good selection of gins. I cannot recommend this place enough.

My husband and I stayed two nights in Fremington over bank holiday weekend. On our arrival we were greeted warmly and shown to our room. It has recently been refurbished and was of an excellent standard. The en suite was especially spacious with a lovely bath and seperate rain head shower. Toiletries were supplied. The room had a lovely view of Fremington Edge at the rear of the car park. Tea and coffee making facilities and biscuits were supplied. The bed was comfortable and towels and bath robes were supplied too. All the public areas were decorated to a high standard and were clean. We chose to eat in the restaurant both nights and my dietary requirements were accomodated and the staff were excellent. The chef has designed the menu around good quality English dishes and the ingredients were chosen from local suppliers - our meals did not disappoint! Breakfast was lovely and had a number of hot dishes to choose from together with toast and jam and fruit, yoghurts, cereal and fruit juice. All staff were very friendly and professional and eager to help. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We would definitely consider returning in the future.
