Fortezza Hotel

Our second stay at this lovely hotel was again excellent! When we arrived late at night we were initially disappointed to have been allocated a room facing the street, rather than poolside. However, by the next day we decided we preferred it, because it was always in the shade which meant sitting out on the balcony was very comfortable and the room was never too hot either. Also, excellent opportunity for people watching. The room was comfortable, if a little small, particularly the bathroom, but for used to that quickly. As before, everywhere was spotlessly clean, and the hotel staff the friendliest we ever encountered anywhere. They also remembered us from last year, which was nice, and went out of their way to assist with requests. We were particularly grateful for getting a day room on our last day, for a very reasonable amount, as we had a very late checkout. Breakfast was delicious, a lot of choice of many freshly prepared items, with staff working hard to continually replacing items during the busy breakfast period, while taking time to exchange a few words, and always smiling. The pool was lovely too, with plenty of loungers and other seating opportunities and we enjoyed our daily lunch there. Pool towels are provided. Guests during our stay were a mix of mainly Dutch, German and Brits, many repeaters, mostly aged 50 plus, and it was always nice and quiet. Location of hotel is great, everything on your doorstep, just next to the harbour, lots of cafes and restaurants, and 2 minutes from the fortress, with the main stretch of beach about 1km away. All in all, another great stay and yes, we are sure to return again.

Good things about the hotel: Immaculately clean everywhere Lovely staff Great location - 2 mins from the Castle, 2 min from the old town restaurants Very quiet on an evening Great size room and wardrobe Fantastic ladies cleaning the rooms Good air con in room Pool area fantastic and has plenty of sunbeds and in sun all day Supermarket across the road Safe was great value 10 euros for the week 24 Hour reception - felt really secure Snack bar and drinks good value Lots of different areas to sit in and a table on the street if you smoke or vape ------- Minor issues We did request balcony when booking as my friend gets up realy early and likes to sit on the balcony, unfortunately we got a juliet balcony on the 1st floor and a view of the road, so unable to sit out or even get on the balcony, they could not move our room. We could not have door open or curtain as everyone passing by on the street could see in our room, so had to have shutters closed all the time, bit annoying as very dark. Breakfast is ok, very basic continental breakfast and same things everyday, not much choice of hot food, scrambled eggs and small sauages were luke warm at best. We did go out for breakfast a couple of times. - Staff were really nice though. Shower pressure was very hit and miss in our friends room, they ended up having a bath, slightly inconvenient.
