I first stayed at this Ascott property shortly after it opened and had a great impression. The location is even better than their Beijing branch, right off Huaihai Road and Xintiandi. Over ten years later, I brought my wife and child back for another stay. I was a bit hesitant given the lower online ratings, but felt compelled to revisit. I suppose overseas Chinese and foreigners tend to prefer this type of serviced apartment more. I believe this consumption habit and concept will become more prevalent in China in another twenty to thirty years. I was pleased with the complimentary suite upgrade from the front desk, but disappointed with only getting a single breakfast. Thankfully, Trip.com honored my request. The breakfast was quite simple, but for an international serviced apartment, it's understandable.
My stay at the Ascott Senlan Shanghai was absolutely beyond my expectations. The apartment boasts an unparalleled location, surrounded by several parks, with a large green space right downstairs. Within a five-minute walk, there's a subway station, as well as two large shopping malls, Senlan Garden City and Senlan Commercial Plaza, making transportation, dining, and shopping incredibly convenient.
The suite we booked was spacious and airy, and opening the window revealed a refreshing green view, which was very therapeutic.
What truly impressed me was the service. From check-in guidance to coordinating requests, everything was meticulous and thoughtful, making us feel completely at ease. Especially Kobe, the Front Office Manager, who was both enthusiastic and professional, demonstrating thoughtfulness in every detail. I sincerely recommend it to anyone looking for a high-quality living experience.
A week at Ascott Hengshan Road felt like having a home nestled under the shade of plane trees. The apartment-style rooms truly cater to the needs of longer stays—the open kitchen allows for simple cooking, and a washing machine and dryer are fully provided. Spending weekends lounging on the sofa, watching the plane tree leaves sway outside the window, felt so much more comfortable and relaxing than a standard hotel.
The location is absolutely superb; Hengshan Road Metro Station is just a three-minute walk downstairs, making it convenient for getting to Jing'an Temple and Xujiahui. In the evening, a stroll to the nearby old villa district, as the streetlights came on and the shadows of the plane trees danced on the red brick walls, created an absolutely enchanting atmosphere.
The concierge staff were incredibly thoughtful, even providing a handwritten list of recommended local shops. My only minor suggestion would be for the bedroom curtains to be a bit more blackout. But overall, it's absolutely perfect for anyone wanting to experience Shanghai at a leisurely pace. I'll definitely stay here again on my next visit.
