A week at Ascott Hengshan Road felt like having a home nestled under the shade of plane trees. The apartment-style rooms truly cater to the needs of longer stays—the open kitchen allows for simple cooking, and a washing machine and dryer are fully provided. Spending weekends lounging on the sofa, watching the plane tree leaves sway outside the window, felt so much more comfortable and relaxing than a standard hotel.
The location is absolutely superb; Hengshan Road Metro Station is just a three-minute walk downstairs, making it convenient for getting to Jing'an Temple and Xujiahui. In the evening, a stroll to the nearby old villa district, as the streetlights came on and the shadows of the plane trees danced on the red brick walls, created an absolutely enchanting atmosphere.
The concierge staff were incredibly thoughtful, even providing a handwritten list of recommended local shops. My only minor suggestion would be for the bedroom curtains to be a bit more blackout. But overall, it's absolutely perfect for anyone wanting to experience Shanghai at a leisurely pace. I'll definitely stay here again on my next visit.

My recent stay at your hotel was truly exceptional, and I would strongly recommend it to others. What makes this property stand out is the home-like warmth and comfort of your service - every staff member went above and beyond to ensure a perfect experience.
The convenient location with easy access to transportation was ideal for both work and leisure, surrounded by great dining and business venues. Despite being centrally located, my room remained peaceful and quiet at night—a rare combination.
The unique room design deserves special mention, and I’ve already shared this ”hidden gem” with friends. When I return to Shanghai, this will be my first-choice accommodation for exactly these reasons. Keep up the wonderful work!

We were in town for a concert with my child, and the hotel staff proactively called us beforehand to confirm our check-in details. We arrived at the hotel around 11 PM, and the front desk staff were incredibly quick with the check-in process, which was a huge relief after a long day of travel!
Moving on to the room, we had a river view room this time. It was quite spacious and impeccably clean. For example, the electric kettle was spotless, inside and out – no water stains whatsoever. This really matters to someone like me who's a bit particular about cleanliness. The bedding was very comfortable, and the mattress was perfect, offering just the right amount of support without being too soft.
Finally, I have to give a special shout-out to the breakfast. I honestly didn't have high expectations, but the breakfast at MGM Shanghai truly blew me away! Unlike the standard, often unremarkable breakfasts at many star hotels, the selection here was incredibly rich and diverse. They had a live noodle station (the scallion oil noodles are a must-try!), freshly prepared seafood congee, and preserved egg and lean pork congee – all tasting absolutely delicious. Especially when compared to another five-star hotel we stayed at the very next day, even my daughter couldn't help but exclaim, 'I really miss MGM's breakfast!'

Satisfactory accommodation. Newly renovated hotel and apartment. I stayed in an apartment, a one-bedroom suite, which was convenient and comfortable. When I checked in, the staff was warm and polite. I would like to praise them and thank them.
You need to swipe your room card to go upstairs, which is safe.
The big bed is not too hard or too soft. Although the bathroom is not separated into three parts, there is a door in the shower room. The privacy is good. The toiletries (4-piece set) are also said to be branded, smell good and easy to use.
The quality of bathrobes and slippers is very good, and the aunt changes them every day. Impeccable.
There is a washing machine with drying in the outer room, and drinks are also provided in the refrigerator. Good reviews!!!
The waiter is warm and thoughtful. I would like to express my sincere gratitude here!!!
The breakfast is also very rich. The homemade yogurt is delicious.
It is a little far from Yishan Subway Station. But walking is within an acceptable range. There is a Guangqi City at Yishan Station, with supermarkets and restaurants. Life around is also very convenient.
Disadvantages:
1. The floor is low, and the fan outside the window is a bit noisy, not obvious during the day, but a little more obvious at night.
2. The hot water in the bathroom is not strong enough (I personally like a large amount of water)

Good value for money, it’s a small, convenient hotel with very nice staff, suitable if you’re passing through Shanghai and need somewhere to sleep or do some work. A big park and some nice restaurants nearby.

The Jinglai Hotel is located in Shanghai's Xujiahui District, a vibrant area with a distinctly old Shanghai vibe, and is just about 100 meters from Xujiahui Metro Station. On-site parking is convenient, and though a fee applies (around 19 RMB/day), it's considered very affordable for Shanghai. While some might find it unusual for hotels to charge for guest parking (a thought I shared on my first Shanghai visit), it's quite common in the 'Magic City' where different rules often apply. Rooms are compact, but the bedding is great and the mattress very comfortable. The front desk staff were proactive and helpful, even offering advice to save money. Breakfast was good and offered a decent variety. Overall, it offers excellent value for money. Additionally, the Jingyan Shanghai restaurant on the second floor serves delicious and reasonably priced local cuisine, especially the Yan Du Xian (salted pork and bamboo shoot soup), which was exceptionally tasty. Next time I visit Shanghai, I'll definitely stay at Jinglai again and dine at Jingyan!

Absolutely fantastic! I stayed here for a concert, and everything was great. The front desk staff were incredibly helpful, even advising on the fastest route to the venue. Amenities were always replenished promptly, and how cool is this – food deliveries were brought up by a little robot! I had such a pleasant experience. The biggest highlight for me was its unbeatable proximity to the stadium – super convenient! I will definitely be staying here again. Oh, and as a lovely gesture, the front desk gave me a complimentary bottle of water when I checked out, which was perfect for my journey.

Stayed here twice for ine night. First time a really big room with kitchenette and sofa. Second time a small room. The hotel is really nice, in a small neighbourhood. Difficult to let taxis go to the location. Couple of restos nearby. Friendly staff. Gym, yoga room, washing machine, kitchen on ground floor….

For my staycation in Shanghai this time, I opted for a deluxe king room in the Executive Wing. Situated on a street corner, its windows offered views of a picturesque six-way intersection, beautifully lined with lush plane trees. A guided tour revealed that the historic building was renovated in 2020. Its interior design and color palette strongly evoke 1930s Art Deco, while the facilities are thoroughly modern. I was particularly impressed by the classic-looking yet smart air conditioning and lighting controls, and the Dyson hairdryer in the bathroom.
The executive lounge features a terrace, ideal for intimate gatherings with friends. The attendant was elegant and welcoming, and had thoughtfully prepared bilingual maps of the surrounding area and guide booklets for guests. Adjacent to the lounge is a small museum, currently showcasing an exhibition on Art Deco in Shanghai, perfect for a solo exploration or for introducing friends to the city's rich history.
The Hengshan Hotel, a landmark in Xujiahui, truly lives up to its reputation. I particularly recommend the Executive Wing for its unique and irreplaceable ambiance as a historic building.
Needless to say, its prime location in the city center is a major highlight. For breakfast over the past few days, I thoroughly explored the nearby culinary scene, enjoying everything from local staples like soy milk and fried dough sticks, xiaolongbao, and glutinous rice rolls, to wontons, pork chops, and treats from the famous Ruby's bakery.

While in Shanghai I stayed at 6 different hotels during, ranging from $60 to $100, in different areas.
Atour X Hotel Jing'an Temple Huanghai Middle Road Shanghai was the worst price performance:
- Suffocating smell of cigarette. I complained, they applied a spray, that obviously didn’t work. When I booked I understood it has no window. Ok. But I expect a clean non smoking room. I tried to circulate the air with air conditioning: useless. Asked to change room, yes, I did: pack, unpack, and still smelling cigarette.
- Really small room, difficult inclusive to open the luggage
- All the internal communication in the room, inclusive the AI chatbot, in Chinese. Sorry, I’m a foreigner and don’t speak Chinese
- Requires 1 floor of stairs. Yes, I have a heavy luggage
- Going through renovation: yes, noise. I didn’t notice that when I made the reservation, so, be aware
- Elevator: only 1 for 11 floors: yes, you may have to wait
- Noise refrigerator
Pros:
- Near to a subway station
- Interesting region: french concession
- They handle your laundry
- Free porridge at night

Outstanding
QQinganFacilities: Well-equipped.
Service: Excellent.
Cleanliness: Excellent, with all essential toiletries provided.
Ambiance: Good overall, but the soundproofing seemed average. I could faintly hear the TV, music, and even singing from the adjacent room, which was a minor distraction. Aside from that, everything else was fine. On a separate note, our room happened to overlook a construction site (a slight inconvenience). Thankfully, the windows were very well soundproofed; closing them completely blocked out the noise.

GGuest UserThe budget hotel I stayed at this time really exceeded expectations! The location is particularly convenient, just near the subway station, downstairs is a small restaurant, affordable, the room looks refreshing, the sheets are clean and tidy, the bathroom has windows for ventilation, the hot water comes quickly, and the bath is super comfortable. The network is very good, the air conditioning is cool, the night sleep is quiet and not noisy, the bed is quite soft, and it is dawn. Although the room is not big, it has everything that should be there. The charging socket is reasonably located and there is a small table for office eating. The most pleasant surprise is that the price is affordable and the price is full! The front desk service is also very warm and responsive. Although there is no breakfast, there are many breakfast shops nearby, which does not affect it at all. Traveling or traveling, choosing this one is really reliable!

GGuest UserAlthough small, it has everything. It is about 10 minutes' walk from Shanghai South Railway Station, which is suitable for catching an early train or arriving in Shanghai late to spend a night. If you are worried about thirst, remember to buy a bottle of water yourself, there is no mineral water in the room. The window is also equipped with a small curtain in the corridor

MM2be18gu5****Seeing the patient is very close to the sixth hospital, I originally placed an order for more people, and I added money to change the family room. The room is very good. Almost 20 square meters. The price is also cost-effective. It is the lowest price hotel nearby. It is also clean. The front desk service is also very satisfied.

1118123****I was mentally prepared before I moved in. After all, you get what you pay for. I can understand the poor sanitary conditions, damp room, musty smell and poor sound insulation, but it is unacceptable that the quilt on the bed is also damp. How can I sleep there? :-(
