The staff were very welcoming, delicious food (would recommend the fish dishes), very clean and situated in one of the most beautiful areas of England. Close to Totnes which is twinned with Narnia. Open fires and good selection of ales. Thoroughly recommend and will be returning.

My recent dining experience at The Waterman's Arms at Bow Bridge, Asprington, was nothing short of unforgettable, but regrettably not in the way one hopes for. Let me recount my astonishing visit to this establishment, an experience that has left an indelible mark and a fervent plea for change. 1. Historical Setting: The backdrop of this culinary adventure was intriguing, to say the least. The venue boasts a rich history, with a section that was once a prison. Ironically, it was my taste buds that felt imprisoned during this visit. 2. Friendly Atmosphere: The one redeeming quality of this place was the welcoming atmosphere created by the staff and owners. Their warmth and friendliness, however, could not salvage the impending disaster that awaited my palate. 3. Local Hospitality: The locals, too, displayed a warm and hospitable demeanour, perhaps aware of the culinary odyssey that lay ahead. Their camaraderie was admirable and provided a glimmer of hope. 4. Riverside Ambiance: The riverside location promised a tranquil dining experience. Yet, the serene surroundings couldn't compensate for the impending culinary disappointment. 5. A Symphony of Nature's Sounds, A Discord of Tastes: As the river flowed and wildlife serenaded the night, their harmonious sounds were drowned out by the agonized cries of my taste buds. The culinary experience was nothing short of an auditory torture. 6. A Gastronomic Nightmare: There is no humour in recounting the culinary offerings, which were a far cry from what one would expect. 7. Subpar and Scarce Choices: The menu offered a variety of options, yet many were unavailable. The limited choices that remained shared a common theme – mediocrity. It was evident that little care had been invested in the food preparation. 8. Betrayed by the Bar: The bar, usually a sanctuary of culinary delight, served up meals that were an affront to the culinary arts. My Caesar salad, promised with mouth-watering chicken, arrived as a wilted iceberg lettuce with scant chicken. To compound the disaster, the bowl was scorching hot, causing the salad to wither. My wife's chicken curry was no better; it tasted like reheated slop, a far cry from what one would expect. In conclusion, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to owners for offering an example of how not to run a culinary establishment. Regrettably, my plans to return with my family have been indefinitely postponed, as their palates deserve better . It was shocking to observe the restaurant virtually empty on a Saturday night, considering its former status as one of the most popular gastro pubs in the South Hams. The eerie silence in the dining area was a stark reminder of the lack of local support for the food. Perhaps it's high time for new ownership, a fresh perspective, and the winds of change. The current owner has missed a significant opportunity to maintain this once-thriving establishment. With the right vision and culinary expertise, The Waterman's Arms could reclaim its stat

This place is amazing, from the premises themselves are old and lots of history as part of it used to be a prison. The staff and owners make the place, you enter as a guest and leave as a friend. We were so welcomed in by them and the locals, buying us drinks and the like. I don’t think i have ever stayed anywhere so welcoming. The location is amazing too as its situated right on a riverside, the name gives it away. Such a peaceful place and at night with the windows open you can hear the river running and the wildlife. I left feeling well relaxed and not really wanting to leave. The food is also staggering, you won’t be leaving hungry here. Top quality breakfast and plenty of it, Toast and fruit and cereal are available on tap, Jams and other condiments. The food in the Bar at night was also fantastic. I had fish pie one night, one of the specials, huge chunks of fresh fish and a mash to die for. Other meals were also out of this world, I tried the Lasagne and the scampi and the good lady had Burger on night and the other asked if they could do her some cheese and salad. Nothing was too much bother for these guys. Its such a dog friendly place too, our Akita just plopped herself down in the bar and the guys were just stepping over and round her, never complaining. They gave her sausages at breakfast and mad such a fuss of her. I tend to judge places on how they treat my dog and those are the places that get my business. This place will be getting my business for a very long time to come, I can’t rate it highly enough. The room was huge and looked out onto the garden, spotlessly clean and every kind of item in the room that you could need. The bed is so comfy and I slept better there than I have in a long time. Cracking shower and plenty of tea and coffee, if it’s not enough just asked for more. It has a small flat screen TV and Freeview box. Free WIFI through out the property. Massive shout out to Sarah, Katy, Leah, John, Linda and Mo who made our stay so extraordinary so much so that I have booked 3 rooms later in the year to take the whole family down.

We came for a family holiday and absolutely loved the setting and the attentive staff were just brilliant. The cost of drinks was good and the food was fab. We can't wait to visit again soon, thank you Sarah!

Met my best friend at this lovely pub at Beau Bridge on 08/05/2022 and had fantastic time, sat outside and ate a lovely roast and met the landlady who was super friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I haven’t stayed overnight yet but I will even though I only live up the road in Totnes. Can highly recommend this fine establishment I know I will be visiting again very soon. Well done Sara, you and your lovely family are doing a stirling job. To all you negative feedbackers …..go somewhere else!

After paying what I thought was an extortionate price (£3.10) for a Fever Tree slimline tonic at another pub/hotel in Somerset about 4 weeks ago I have been keeping track of prices in pubs and hotels and most are about £2.50 and £3.00 at the most. However, I was pleased to pay only £2.20 in Kingsteignton last night. So I couldn’t believe the cost of the identical drink today at the Waterman’s Arms today - £3.25!!! How can they justify this? It is only 200ml and is more expensive than half a pint of beer which has tax included.
