Hotel San Giusto

Had a brief 1 night stay at the hotel with family so we booked 2 rooms. The photos of the rooms on the website give a realistic view of the room, however captured with a very wide lens. They rooms have adequate space, but no where near what the photos show. The bathroom is also on the small side, and the toilet and bidet positioned in corners of the bathroom where they were impossible to use without contortioning oneself. No kettle in the room, although the minibar was well stocked. Room and bathroom were nice and clean, and the bed very comfortable with a firm mattress, and good pillows. Hotel WiFi was easy to log into, and had a good reliable speed. Staff was friendly and helpful throughout the stay. One bad feature is that even though they have a garage, it is not possible to book it. When we arrived it was already full, and we were sent to a public underground parking area about 300m from the hotel. Street parking in the area was impossible, as there were cars already parked everywhere. Special mention to the in house restaurant. They offer a full 3 course dinner (very good sized portions) at €19. The food quality was also very good, and a special shout out to the girls waiting on us. Both were very helpful, kind, efficient and friendly.

We stayed here for 2 nights before our cruise and were hugely disappointed. Nothing was as advertised. We booked directly through the hotel and were told that our 2 prerequisites were met - an elevator and air conditioning. Upon arrival, we were informed that they don't turn on their A/C system until June, which made the rooms unbearable. Also, our rooms happened to be in the annex building, which is only accessible by taking the elevator, walking down a hall, going down a few steps, and then walking up another full set of stairs. We were traveling with someone in a wheelchair that had to be helped up and down a full flight of stairs every time we left the building. Additionally, the floors were covered with paint stains and the rooms reeked of smoke. On a positive note, the staff was friendly and the breakfast was fine.

Do you like sugary things for breakfast? Then this is the place to go. Do you prefere fraiche vegetables and fruits? Better stay away. There is not so much as a slice of cucumber to be found at the breakfast buffet.

First of all, very nice and accommodating staff. However, the breakfast buffet is not at all what is pictured on the website. Not even any where close to the website photos. Had to have been set up that way only for the photo. The breakfast time is not 7-10am but a shorter window of 7:30-9:30am. The coffee and tea maker needs to be requested at checkin but is available. What is not available is the insinuated room service, therefore, suggesting a restaurant. There is no restaurant but room service may be scheduled for the very limited pre fixed dinner service from 7:30-9:30pm. There also is not a suggested business center for laser printing and a computer to use as suggested in the photos. The staff will print something for you when requested but there is no color printing as I needed for a cruise ship luggage tag. The rooms are mostly as pictured in the photo’s, very sparse. The rooms could also use a paint job. The hotel is very clean.

We stayed at an apartment associated with Best Western Hotel San Giusto, not in the hotel itself. Since we booked a VRBO property, which cancelled while we were in flight to Italy, we were grateful that we could get something on such short notice. The price was about 250 euros a night for three people, which I consider a reasonable price for something at the last minute during August. The apartment was well-furnished and down the street from the hotel so that we could easily walk to the hotel if we needed anything. We were able to cook, which helps save on expenses, although we certainly indulged in the local cafes. The location is near at least two bus lines although we were able to walk to the grocery store, the James Joyce museum, and San Giusto Castle, of course. The apartment has one bedroom with a double bed and a common room with a kitchen and living room. The kitchen is equipped with a stove, dishwasher, cooking and eating utensils, and a table for eating. The living room has a sofa that unfolds into a bed to accommodate three people. If you are a coffee drinker, there is a moka pot, which we used. If you are a tea drinker, you have to improvise a bit as there is no kettle.
