"We spent three lovely days at the Duchi d’Aosta. Our room was beautiful, well laid out and with super comfortable bedding. The hotel preserves its historical aesthetic past but offers every modern comfort you expect in a five star establishment. Staff was courteous and helpful with getting tickets to a concert at the Teatro Verdi around the corner. Breakfast looking at the Piazza Unita’ is fabulous."

"The apartment is in a great location, 10 minutes walk to the train station, a few minutes to Unification Square, and about 10 minutes to the cruise terminal. Because we got off the cruise at 9:30 in the morning, after communicating with the apartment, they immediately agreed to let us move in early, and the office staff downstairs personally took us in, which was a very good experience."

"Absolutely the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had — and I’ve stayed in cheap one-star motels that were cleaner, bigger, and better managed than this place. Calling this a 3-star hotel is honestly laughable. We traveled with my husband and baby and paid for a “standard” room that was basically the size of a closet. We then paid extra to upgrade, thinking it would improve things, and somehow ended up in an even worse room: dirty, moldy, run-down, and full of ants. But the most ridiculous part? The owner personally decides whether guests are “allowed” to have air conditioning. Nearly 30°C outside, windows that barely open, a baby in the room — and apparently that still wasn’t “hot enough” for him to turn on the AC. €630 for 3 nights in those conditions is insulting. It got so bad that for the first time in our lives we checked out early from a hotel. Now they’re refusing to refund the nights we didn’t even stay. The only reason this review gets one star instead of zero is because the staff were kind and clearly trying their best despite the disaster they’re working in."

"We enjoyed a three night visit to the Grand Hotel Duchi d'Aosta, an elegant boutique property with an unbeatable location on Trieste's historic main square. The location has had an hotel since the 14c and the present structure dates from the 1870s. The guest list is impressive! Our (single) room and its shower-only bathroom were 'compact' - and about the smallest in the hotel - but they were well equipped and spotlessly clean. Everything worked. Breakfast was an adequate if unexciting buffet. All the staff we met were friendly and professional. The hotel has a famed two rosette Michelin restaurant but the alternative is uninteresting (and the wine is very expensive by local standards) - the best local option for ordinary meals is the Caffè degli Specchi across the square. The Duchi d'Aosta is not the 5 star 'grand hotel' its name suggests but it's a very pleasant 4 + star option and good value by international standards. Recommended. Tip – the small group guided tour offered by the nearby tourist office is an excellent introduction to Trieste. "

"I'll start by saying that the property is completely new and has a lot of potential, but there are some things that can't be overlooked. It was truly unpleasant to find used sheets rolled up in the closet, smelling strongly of sweat. The breakfast placemats were dirty, as seen in the photos, and the equally dirty tablecloth was rolled up inside the house. The oven was completely dirty, as shown in the photos. Cleanliness is fundamental in everything, and we felt uncomfortable touching things that had definitely not been washed or not washed well. I hope this review will help you be more thorough with your cleaning..."
