I chose Park Plaza as it was convenient to both the train station and airport.
The price was also excellent value for money.
My train from Lhasa arrived at 6.30am and I caught a taxi the short distance to Park Plaza without issue.
I checked in around 7am and was shown my room.
It was beautiful, very spacious with a large window,
and it also had a freestanding bath.
Unfortunately I could smell cigarette smoke, which is not uncommon in Chinese hotels.
I asked for a different room and was immediately shown one .
This room was identical but the bed covers were a children's design and there were some toys and teepee in one corner . I simply folded the bright yellow covers down and had a lovely tasteful decor again.
The bed was extremely comfy and the room was very quiet.
The buffet was beyond excellent and the head chef and his small team were very friendly and attentive.
Clearly they were very proud of their fabulous buffet and presentation....as they should be. It was my best in China..
I found a lovely walking trail behind the hotel beside the river, 5 mins away.
The area in general was nice to wander around, very different from my stay in the centre of city when on my way to Tibet.
I will most definitely choose Park Plaza when I return to Xining.

Love this hotel, clean and tidy. I am very particular about my bed when I sleep, but the bed in this hotel is very comfortable and I don't have that problem! The breakfast is rich and colorful, and the ladies and brothers at the front desk are civilized and polite. Most importantly, I want to give a thumbs up to the housekeeping aunt. I put my cash, bank cards, and gold jewelry in the room, so I don’t have to worry about going out. The aunt cleans up neatly and of high quality! The overall hotel rating is very high!

The price is actually not cheap in the off-season in Xining, but the hotel environment is extremely poor, the sanitary facilities are really dirty, and the room is very cold! When I asked the front desk, I was told that there are several houses that are colder and you can decide what to do. That's the attitude. There was a layer of dirt where the cups were placed, and the carpet was so dirty that it was hard to tell! The most rubbish hotel I have ever stayed in at this level

The service and cleanliness of the hotel are very average. I booked a room upgrade on Ctrip, but it was not upgraded when I arrived. After contacting the front desk for an upgrade, the room hygiene was very poor. There were footprints on the floor at the door, and there were cigarette ashes on the bedside table. It didn't matter that it was late, so I just made do with it. Turns out there were still hairs on the sheets. The management is average. Breakfast was said to be until 10:30, but the meal was not served at 10:05.
