Things you need to know when visiting the Netherlands 🇳🇱✨
Amsterdam, Utrecht, and Kinderdijk Trip Summary
In October 2025, I visited Amsterdam, Utrecht, and Kinderdijk in the Netherlands.
I've compiled some useful tips based on my experiences.
I hope this helps anyone planning a trip to the Netherlands. ✈️
⸻
1. Always assume train delays! 🚆
This is a key point I really want to emphasize.
During my three-day stay,
there were almost no days when the trains were running perfectly normally.
When traveling from Brussels to Amsterdam,
my Eurostar reservation was suddenly canceled.
I asked the station attendant,
but they just told me to take another train, without any further instructions.
In the end, I figured out the route myself and managed to get there by changing to another train.
So,
When traveling to the Netherlands,
it's really important to have a flexible schedule!
And I highly recommend the app Citymapper 📱.
It accurately reflects delay and cancellation information that Google Maps doesn't, so it was extremely helpful.
If you're traveling by train in the Netherlands, I highly recommend having it installed!

2. Getting to Kinderdijk is a bit tricky 🌬️
Many people plan to go to Kinderdijk to see the windmills, but getting there is a bit complicated, as it involves a combination of train and boat.
The actual route was:
Amsterdam Zuid Station
→ Train to Amsterdam Centraal Station
→ Walk to the ferry terminal
→ Board the boat
→ Change boats along the way
→ Arrive at Kinderdijk
I managed to get there by checking with the boat crew.
Ferry schedules also apply, so I recommend checking the route and times in advance!

3 Miffy's hometown, Utrecht, is surprisingly close! 🐰
Miffy's hometown, Utrecht, is about 30 minutes by train from Amsterdam.
The city is filled with Miffy-themed items, including a Miffy statue, Miffy traffic lights, and adorable shops. It's a truly relaxing experience.
Be careful of train accidents, but if you have the time, this is a city worth visiting! ✨
⸻
4 Reservations are required for popular spots! 🎟️
These two places are especially worth paying attention to:
Anne Frank House
Van Gogh Museum
Anne Frank House is particularly popular, and you need to reserve well in advance to get tickets. I booked late and couldn't get in.
Even with a reservation, you may have to wait in line to get in at the Van Gogh Museum, so I recommend planning your visit with plenty of time.

5. The stroopwafels are so delicious! 🧇
Stroopwafels, a Dutch specialty, are different from Belgian waffles.
Thin waffles are filled with a gooey caramel sauce, making them incredibly sweet and delicious.
There are so many shops, it's fun to try them all.
My recommendation: FA. Stroop – Stroopwafels Hans Egstorf
⸻
Feb 6 is a must-try! 🍔
FEBO: A Dutch Vending Machine Fast Food Specialty
The vending machine is lined with croquettes, chicken, and other items, and you insert your money and get the food.
The experience of buying is fun, and the taste is even better than you'd expect.
It's perfect for when you've eaten too many stroopwafels and want a lighter dinner. ✨
