Ho village paintings are loved because they show familiar themes, associated with the image of the countryside, the simple daily life of Vietnamese people. The people of Ho village know how to distill and apply natural materials to create traditional colors that are both fresh and durable: indigo from the indigo tree, c, crimson from the Van bark, black from bamboo ash or chiffon ash,...
Unique paintings are printed on Do paper. This is a type of paper that is hand-crafted from the Do tree that grows in the forest. The paper background is usually brushed with a layer of turpentine or a layer of paste mixed with a little powder from the scallop shells to create a sparkling color. Therefore, Do paper is also known as Diep paper.
