“Bantaey Chmar”, the story behind the wall “Bantaey Chmar” means “small city”, “small castle” or “small fortress”, located in Banteay Meanchey province. Built by King Jayavarman VII, it was considered a great castle during his time and was also an important religious site dedicated to his son “Srindra Kumar” and a group of nobles who died in the war. There are carvings on the castle’s gallery telling the events during the reign of King Jayavarman VII and the carving of “Avalokitesvara with a thousand arms” that was recently restored after being stolen.
