#favouriteitinerary Everything about the Punakha Dzong (fortress) is beautiful and stunning. The Punakha Dzong is said to have been built in 1637 and served as the location of the Bhutan government administrative location before being moved to the current capital city of Thimphu in the 1950's. Upon entering the Dzong, you can sense the size of this facility - it is BIG! This Dzong has three (3) separate courtyard (dochey) areas, and the main (central) tower building is six (6) stories tall. In addition to the beautiful architectural design of the Punakha Dzong, the location of this Dzong at the banks of the confluence of two (2) rivers - Mochhu River and Pochhu River - what a stunning location! Very picturesque spot. The Punakha Dzong is in my opinion is a definite must visit place in Bhutan, 2nd only to the Tiger's Nest Temple.

#favouriteitinerary Chimi Lhkhang Temple is said to be preparation for the Tiger's Nest Hike. After doing both, I find that while the former can be in no way compared to the latter, the Chimi Lhkhang experience is worth it. The hike to the temple encompasses narrow paths through rice fields initially, which then gives way to a much broader path. The atmosphere is very good and peaceful; the initial hike is very easy even for people who are old or children who are very young. The main challenging part is the end portion of the hike, which comprises several steps (nearly 80-100). The temple is very different from all others visited by myself, in a good way. This temple is revered as well. It concerns the history of Divine Madman, who was considered very different from other Buddhist masters. There's a good cafeteria in the initial section of the hike, which serves food at high prices but of a good quality. Definitely try to pay a visit if time permits.

#favouriteitinerary I visited Buddha Point on Day 2 of my Bhutan trip. It's best to go in the morning as it can get very windy by the afternoon. At 2,500m above sea level, the air can be pretty thin, but the view more than makes up for it. A staggering 162 feet golden seating Buddha against the backdrop of a deep blue sky is a very mesmerising view. We can enter the main sanctum as well. Photography and video are strictly forbidden inside. The inner sanctum has a high vaulted ceiling with beautiful Mandala paintings. The walls depict the growth of Bhutan and its religious communities. Make sure to get great pictures of Thimpu City as well from the view point.

#favouriteitinerary This is what most people who come to Bhutan have come to see, the Tigers Nest. Just completed the trek. It has amazing views. The trek is difficult though. It is long, at times steep and very hard to breathe while climbing it. If you are only in average shape and/or over 50, it may take a very long time to complete. You have to move slowly. You have to take maybe 15 or so steps and then stop to allow your heart to slow down. There are really three sections to the trek. The first is regular wooded uphill hiking. Then you get to the cafeteria which has a magnificent view. And food and drink. Then you go on the second part which is steep but sometimes a flat trail and less steps. It’s not easier though. The third segment is when you are almost to the temple. You think you’ve made it, but you still have 1000 steps down and then up again to get to the temple. You then have to do all of this over again. Downhill is easier but harder on the joints. This trek requires stamina and the mindset that you can do it. It’s rigorous.

During my visit to the ZhiwaLing Hotel in Paro, Bhutan, I was not only deeply impressed by the hotel's aesthetics but also deeply amazed by the hotel team. Every window frames a picturesque view, every step evokes a sense of Zen—time seems to stand still. The hotel features an all-suite design with a total of 45 rooms. The toiletries are from their own brand. There are four F&B outlets, a spa, a gym, a swimming pool, an outdoor hot spring, and a meditation room—everything you could need. While exploring the hotel, I happened to meet the hotel management team, who invited me for coffee and afternoon tea. While chatting with the hotel's marketing manager, I asked her: "Which travel agencies are your main partners in China, and what are your primary promotional channels? I really want to introduce your hotel to more people traveling to Bhutan!" The staff explained that the hotel underwent renovations during the pandemic and even added an elevator. I visited Room 45, which I heard is a favorite of royalty and Rinpoches. The hotel has even incorporated a Buddhist shrine directly into the room. Just sitting quietly there for a while, I felt an incredible sense of spiritual support. There's another shrine on the third floor, and antique furnishings throughout the hotel connect guests with the passage of time. Life is a series of awakenings to impermanence. I hope every guest who stays here can experience auspiciousness and joy.

Tiger’s Nest in Bhutan is located on the granite cliff above Paro Valley with an elevation of 3286 meters/10778 feet. It is a sacred site for Vajrayana Himalayan Buddhists. It is one of the 13th sites of Guru Padmasambhava, who flew on the back of the Tigress from Singye Dzong in eastern Bhutan and meditated there. Another legend says Yeshe Tsogyal former wife of the Tibetan Emperor was a disciple of Guru. She transformed into Tigrees and flew to Paro with Guru to spread Buddhism in the Himalayan country Bhutan. Guru started meditation in the cave. “Taksang” literally means “Tigeress lair”. Guru started meditating in the 8th century and also started preaching Dharma. Guru meditated and manifested into eight incarnated forms. The place turned into a holy site.
