No visit to Belarus would be complete without a trip to this town. Brest is best known for its fortress and its proximity to the Polish border. The size of the fortress is really impressive. It’s not only a historical site but also a lovely place for a walk. Entrance is free. Brest is quite small. Its main street—Sovetskaya—reminded me a lot of the streets in Nizhny Novgorod: cozy, quiet, with neat, low-rise buildings. Transportation: Take a bus from Grodno to Brest. It took three and a half hours in total. Special tip: If you plan to go to Belovezhskaya Forest, you can go to the train station when you arrive in Brest and buy round-trip tickets to the forest in advance.
