Calafell: Beach Days, History, and Relaxation by the Mediterranean
Just an hour from Barcelona, Calafell offers the perfect mix of sandy beaches, seaside promenades, and ancient history. Whether you are looking to relax under the sun, explore a medieval castle, or enjoy seafood by the sea, this quiet town on the Costa Daurada has it all.
Walk along the long, family-friendly beach with calm, shallow waters, ideal for a stress-free swim. Visit the Castell de Calafell, perched above the town with panoramic views, or step even further back in time at the Ciutadella Ibèrica, a fascinating reconstruction of an ancient Iberian village.
Tips for Visitors:
Easily reachable by train from Barcelona-Sants (approx. 1 hour)
Ideal for families, couples, and history lovers
Beachfront restaurants offer fresh fish and classic paella
Visit off-season for a quieter, local vibe
Great base to explore other Costa Daurada towns like Vilanova or Tarragona

How can you visit a city without going to its castle?
Mediterranean Coast Tour of Spain ~ Tarragona (Region)
The most beautiful photos can be taken from the outside. The entrance fee is 4 euros, and if you have enough time, you can spend an extra 2 euros for a guided tour, as they explain more and clarify doubts better than any paper guide.
I recommend visiting and learning about the history of this castle, as it has undergone many changes throughout history. We were able to visit everything, including the church, cisterns, etc., and climb to the top of the castle to enjoy views of the town, the sea, and the landscape once ruled by feudal lords. Without a doubt, this is a wonderful story about a small town with only 40 families. 100% recommended.

Located on a hilltop on the Costa del Sol, the town of Calafell combines heritage charm with seafaring traditions
Mediterranean Coast of Spain ~ Tarragona (Region)
Among the monumental heritage of Calafell, it is worth highlighting part of a medieval castle with a wall, the Romanesque church of Santa Cruz from the 11th century Lombard period, and the remains of frescoes in the apse. However, its tourist center is located above the ancient fishing area of La Platja or Marina de Calafell, where visitors can find a large number of restaurants, hotels, apartments and developments. In Calafell, it is also worth visiting the Iberian town of Les Toixoneres (5th to 2nd century BC), currently known as the Iberian Castle of Calafell, which has been rebuilt and decorated to evoke the civilization that inhabited the area twenty-five centuries ago.
Calafell has obtained the certification of Family Tourist Destination and Family Beach, making it a perfect destination for traveling with children.
