The best northland campground!
If you are exploring northland, New Zealand with a van or a car. I would recommend this campground. It was the best one I have been to in New Zealand so far.
Reasons:
1. The beach is just 1min walk (depending on where you set up the van/car).
2. Close to the major attractions in northland (sand dunes/lighthouse).
3. There are outdoor cold showers.
4. Two or three nice hiking trails.
Apart from that, remember to stock up with food and drinking water before heading there. The closest shop (well stocked) is around 45mins drive. There a drinking water tap at the lighthouse carpark 1, just at the toilets.
You can book and pay online before going as well since the cell signal is not that great there. 16 NZD per person like most DOCs.
Enjoy your stay!

📍Cape Reinga
Address: Northland, New Zealand
Made it to the northern most tip of New Zealand, the famous Cape Reinga / Te Rerenga Wairua. Itis the located on the northwestern most tip of the Aupōuri Peninsula, at the northern end of the North Island of New Zealand.
It boasts an ancient pohutukawa tree and a lonely lighthouse marking this place very special. Going there you’ll see two oceans collide & discover the place of leaping, where Maori spirits begin their final journey.
Definitely a must visit! 💯

This isn’t just about the destination—the drive itself is packed with breathtaking landscapes, hidden beaches, and unique cultural spots.
The Drive
Starting from Auckland or the Bay of Islands, the drive to Cape Reinga takes around 5-6 hours, winding through rolling farmlands, ancient forests, and coastal cliffs. Along the way, make stops to experience the best of Northland.

Cape Reinga Lighthouse: The Final Stop
Perched on a cliff where two oceans meet, the Cape Reinga Lighthouse offers one of the most breathtaking panoramic views in New Zealand. Walk the short, scenic trail to the lighthouse and witness the swirling currents below, a sight that feels almost mystical.

The northe
The northernmost point I visited at the beginning of the year
There were quite a few people from Asia
It wasn't a clear day, but I could see the beautiful ocean and mountains
However, it's far away, so one visit is enough

Maori Sacred Site. Stunning View! The Northernmost Point of New Zealand.
📍New Zealand🇳🇿New Zealand | Cape Reinga
Located about a 5.5-hour drive north from Auckland, New Zealand's largest city, is Cape Reinga, the northernmost point of the country.
This place is deeply connected to the legends passed down by the Maori people and is said to be the place where souls depart.
There is a lone Pohutukawa tree (pictured in the 6th photo) standing on the cliff, and according to mythology, the souls of the deceased travel through the roots of this tree to reach the place where the ancestors of the Maori people reside.
It was a very refreshing place with clear air✨

In New Zealand Northernmost
#0yentrip
The northernmost point in New Zealand!! I went to Cape Reinga🇳🇿The weather was great and very nice☀️
I rented a car from Auckland!
It was a two-day, one-night trip with five people. I think it's cheaper and more fun to go with a group than to go alone!! You can also visit the surrounding sand dunes and 90 Mile Beach, so you can visit a lot of places‼︎
⚠️There are some things to be careful of, and there are few places for food and toilets, so I recommend that you go there if you find them! We got food at a big supermarket called Packin Save (like Costco) on the way from Auckland! Also, there is gas next to the supermarket, so don't worry😚
Please be careful and have fun when you go🫶🏻

Giant Sand Dunes @ Cape Reinga 🇳🇿
#familytrips2024
Our family trip to the giant sand dunes at Cape Reinga, New Zealand, was an exhilarating adventure.
The towering Te Paki Sand Dunes offered endless fun for everyone. We rented sandboards at the base and spent hours sliding down the sandy slopes. The climb to the top was challenging but rewarded us with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Despite the workout, the thrill of zooming down the dunes made it all worthwhile.
The dunes were well-signposted, and the area included facilities like a parking lot and toilets, making it convenient for families.
My rating: 4 ⭐️ out of 5!

Did you know that New Zealand also has deserts?
#Overseas travel #New Zealand #North Island #Desert #Desert trekking
There is a large desert called Giant sand dunes in the north of New Zealand!
It takes almost 6 hours by car from downtown Auckland,
but even if you drive for a long time, you will not regret it because the sand dunes and scenery will unfold in front of you😍
When I think of deserts, I usually think that I have to walk a long way after getting out of the car, but here, you can see the sand dunes right away after getting off at the parking lot and crossing a small stream!
There were many people who went sandboarding. You can bring your own, but there are also companies that rent them on site, so you can experience riding a board down the desert!
A trip to New Zealand where glaciers, deserts, seas, and mountains come together
It's one of the best choices👐👐

Cape Reinga, the northernmost point of New Zealand
#Overseas travel #New Zealand #North Island #Lighthouse #Maori
This is Cape Reinga, the northernmost point of New Zealand!
It is also where the Tasman Sea, the sea between New Zealand and Australia, and the South Pacific Ocean meet.
According to the legend of the Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand, when the Maori die, their spirits dive here at Cape Reinga! (I heard it, so I'm not sure😅)
Unlike other places in New Zealand, this place has a subtropical climate, so it's not that cold even if you go in winter.
New Zealand is located in the southern hemisphere, so the seasons are opposite to those of Korea, and the further north you go, the closer you are to the equator, so it gets warmer. It was winter for me, but I was able to travel warmly compared to other travel destinations!

Cape Regin
Cape Regina is at the northern end of the North Island of New Zealand. An ancient pohutukawa tree and lonely lighthouse mark this special place, it holds great significance in Maori Culture. This is the place where spirits come to descend into the underworld. A 4 kilometers 8 minutes drive, we reach Te Paki Stream to have the sand boarding fun, then we proceed to the nintey-Mile Beach drive. I took the day tour from Paihia that is 200 kilometers away to Cape Regina. Pahia have more accommodation and restaurants.

The views
The views are spectacular and the plaques with historical information are worth reading to get a good understanding of where you are.
Highly recommended and if you question the journey, don’t, just get up early and see the attraction at its best. #wintergetaway
