Chaoyang Youshun Temple|Exquisite Tantric stone carvings that I almost missed When I came to Chaoyang, Liaoning to look for Liao Pagoda, Youshun Temple was an unexpected surprise. Shanyoushun Temple, commonly known as the "Lama Temple", was built in the 17th year of Kangxi's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1698) and completed in the 46th year (1707). In the 18th year of Qianlong's reign (1783), Emperor Qianlong went to Shengjing (today's Shenyang) and visited the mausoleum here. He also awarded a plaque with the words "Zhenru Miaojue" and hung it in the main hall of the temple. The building faces north and faces south, with an official-style architectural layout and approach, but it still has an ancient style and is not as rigid as the official-style buildings of the later Qing Dynasty. The building complex mainly includes the Tianwang Hall, Sutra Pavilion, Daxiong Hall, Qijian Hall, etc. It is a typical physical specimen for the study of contemporary ancient buildings in Liaoning. The tantric stone carvings on the wall are quite interesting. There are 23 stone carvings in total surrounding the main hall. They include reliefs of Lamaist gods, musical instruments, scriptures, etc. Although they have faded, the images are very vivid and are the essence of the stone carving art of Youshun Temple. Youshun Temple is a Tibetan Buddhist temple in Chaoyang that has preserved its traditional architectural style. Chaoyang Twin Towers, also known as the South and North Towers, are located at the north and south ends of Murong Street in Shuangta District, Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province, 300 meters apart. Chaoyang North Tower is the oldest pagoda in Northeast China, with a history of more than 1,500 years. Chaoyang South Tower is a relic of the Liao Dynasty Xingzhongfu City, built in the second year of the Liao Dynasty, with a history of more than 900 years. Chaoyang North Tower is a 13-story square hollow brick pagoda with a dense eaves style, about 42 meters high. The four sides of the pagoda are decorated with brick carvings of the four Buddhas of Esoteric Buddhism, eight Bodhisattvas, 24 flying Apsaras, eight pagodas, and the name of the pagoda. Inside the pagoda, there are underground and heavenly palaces, where a large number of Buddhist relics were unearthed, including two relics of Sakyamuni. Chaoyang South Tower is a 13-story square hollow brick pagoda with a dense eaves style, about 40 meters high. A gold coffin was unearthed inside the pagoda, containing one relic of Sakyamuni and 18 relics of Dingguang Buddha, which are of great historical value.

Murong Street is located in the former capital of the Xianbei people, the land of the Three Yan Kingdoms. It has a martial arts vibe, as if you have traveled back in time to the historical setting of Jin Yong's "Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils". The famous twin towers stand at both ends of Murong Street, facing each other from afar. The street is full of ancient charm, especially when the sun sets. At the entrance of the street is the De Fu Museum, a private museum that is said to be worth a visit. Unfortunately, I missed the opening hours and couldn't go in. There are many shops on both sides of the street selling fossils and Warring States red agate, which are local specialties. If you are interested in stones, you can take a good look around.

Without any strategy, I came across this city - "Sanyan Capital", formerly known as "Longcheng". There are many poems about Longcheng, but I don't know if they refer to the ancient Chaoyang City here, to be verified. In the morning fog, I woke up early and went to the ancient city of Chaoyang before breakfast - Beita, Nanta, Youshun Temple, Murong Street, Daling River... I left this unexpected ancient city after breakfast. What was unexpected was that there was no charge here, and incense was provided free of charge to the pilgrims, which was puzzling, as it was out of place!? There are many local people who believe in Buddhism and worship Buddha, and the incense in the temple is continuous, and even Beita and Nanta have worshippers.
