I started my journey with a stroll through the vibrant downtown area, where cafés, boutiques, and art galleries line the streets. The city is framed by snow-capped mountains and the peaceful waters of Eyjafjörður Fjord, offering views that made me stop and stare every few minutes. The heart-shaped stoplights? An adorable surprise that reflects the city’s character—welcoming, thoughtful, and creative. One of my favorite spots was the Akureyri Botanical Garden, one of the northernmost in the world. It was unexpectedly lush and beautiful, showcasing flora from both Iceland and abroad. What stood out most was the proximity to natural wonders. I highly recommend this local tour. The boat is large and you can see whales comfortably. There are also beautiful sunsets along the way!
