Today I drove from Broadway in the Cotswolds to Bath and stopped at Snowshill Manor, a Tudor manor house once owned by the English eccentric Charles Paget Wade. He used it to house his collection of thousands of objects and left it all to the National Trust in 1951. I found it interesting and charming. Henry VIII took the house from the Catholic Church, and it has many stories and ghosts.

My 1 day road trip. I did London → Bath → Stonehenge for under £150, and driving gave me the freedom to turn two famous places into one proper UK road trip. Here’s exactly how I’d plan it again 👇 🚗 1. CAR was my choice Leave London early → Bath first → Stonehenge → London. Driving gives you flexibility, but don’t waste money/time hunting for central Bath parking. I’d use a Park & Ride and explore Bath on foot. 🏛️ 2. Bath can be surprisingly cheap You don’t need tickets for everything. Pulteney Bridge + Weir, Royal Crescent, The Circus and Bath World Heritage Centre can all be enjoyed free. There are even free guided walking tours. 🎟️ 3. Where I WOULD spend - Stonehenge For a first visit, I think the official Stonehenge ticket is worth budgeting for. Book online by the day before - English Heritage currently says advance booking can save up to 15%, and later-day tickets can sometimes be cheaper. 💡 DON’T automatically pay for every Bath attraction If you’re doing this on a £150 budget, I’d choose one paid experience maximum. For this route, my money goes to Stonehenge, while Bath becomes the beautiful walking/exploring part of the trip. 🚆 NO CAR? Do this instead: Take London Paddington → Bath Spa, explore Bath, then travel towards Salisbury for Stonehenge. You won't need to take any transport once you're there, and a 4 to 6-hour itinerary will be plenty fulfilling. Starting from the bus station, it's just a 5-minute walk to Bath's most famous attraction: the Roman Baths. These public baths were built by the Romans over 2,000 years ago and remain the city's most iconic landmark. I suggest setting aside 1 to 1.5 hours for your visit. Tickets cost around £26 to £30, and booking in advance is highly recommended during peak seasons. After your visit, you can drop by the adjacent Bath Abbey before taking a slow walk to Parade Gardens. If the weather is nice, I highly recommend grabbing a Meal Deal from a nearby supermarket and finding a bench or a spot on the grass in the park for lunch. The sunshine, river views, and laid-back atmosphere will make you never want to leave. Next, head over to Bath's renowned Pulteney Bridge. Lined with shops on both sides, it is one of the few historic bridges in the world to still have active storefronts and serves as one of Bath's most classic photo spots. But don't worry if you forget; the city center is packed with supermarkets, convenience stores, and cafes, making it super easy to grab whatever you need. I also found that prices in Bath are much more wallet-friendly compared to London. Whether it's coffee, pastries, or dining out, things generally cost a bit less, making it the perfect place to slow down and spend the entire day. If you love history, classical architecture, or simply want a city where you can wander at your own pace, I truly can't recommend Bath enough. I had seen London, old English villages, and the countryside so many times in movies, but experiencing them in real life was completely different. London London is an obvious choice, but it really deserves the hype. Seeing Big Ben, Tower Bridge, and Westminster in person felt special. My favorite part was actually just walking around, getting lost between busy streets and quieter neighborhoods. The Cotswolds Probably one of the most beautiful parts of my trip. The stone cottages, small villages, and countryside looked like something from a movie. Bibury and Castle Combe were especially beautiful. This is the kind of place where you don’t need to rush. Bath Bath has a completely different atmosphere. I came for the Roman Baths, but I ended up enjoying the city itself even more. The architecture is gorgeous, and it’s a great place to explore on foot. York York made me feel like I had stepped back in time. Walking through The Shambles and seeing York Minster were easily the highlights. It’s historic, charming, and surprisingly fun to explore. Lake District This was the England I didn’t expect to love so much. Lakes, mountains, green hills, and peaceful little villages everywhere. After spending time in the cities, being here felt like the perfect change of pace. For me, England is best when you experience both sides of it. Spend some time in London, but don’t stop there. Take a National Express bus from London Victoria station or a train from London Paddington Station. Book tickets in advance to save on costs! ⛲️Start early at The Roman Baths to beat the crowds. Walk across 2,000-year-old pavements, view the steaming Great Bath, Britain's only natural hot spring. 🏛Step into Bath Abbey, a late-medieval masterpiece. Look up to admire the magnificent stone fan vaulting and stunning stained-glass windows. 🌁Walk over to Pulteney Bridge, one of only four bridges in the world lined with functional shops on both sides. Next time I visit the Lake District, I will definitely choose this place again! 🔥 📍 The hotel is located on a hilltop overlooking Lake Windermere, with an excellent location offering panoramic views of the entire Lake District. It’s about a 10-minute drive to Windermere train station. Nearby attractions include Blackwell Arts and Crafts House and St Martin’s Church. 🛏️ The rooms are stylish and luxurious, each with a unique design. Many rooms have direct views of the lake, well-manicured gardens, and surrounding hills. The rooms are spacious and tidy, with beds so comfortable you won’t want to get up. There’s a handwritten welcome letter, and the toiletries 🧴 are from the local brand The Bath House, which feels very high quality. Rooms also come with a minibar, an Italian espresso machine, and a flat-screen TV—attention to detail is spot on. 🍽️ Michelin-recommended restaurant + authentic British cuisine The hotel’s Henrock restaurant is Michelin 🌟 recommended, led by renowned chef Simon Rogan, using local ingredients to prepare dishes.
