An umbrella or waterproof layer could turn out useful as there was quite a lot of rainfall. The fall foilage were spectacular during this period. Though it was raining, we braved the weather and did a few hikes. As soon as we reached the spots, the skies cleared up a little and we managed to absorb the beauty of it all! It is at the northerly base of the Zugspitze (2,950 metres (9,680 ft) above sea level and 3.5 km to the south), Germany's highest mountain. The lake lies within the municipality of Grainau and is privately-owned. Directly at the bottom of the Zugspitze, lies one of the most beautiful lakes in the Bavarian Alps - the Eibsee. Formed more than 3000 years ago by a landslide, the mountain lake offers a variety of sporting activities and excursions. In winter, the Eibsee with its picturesque winter landscape is absolutely worth seeing. The Eibsee circular trail is also passable in winter. In January, the lake is often completely frozen which gives the landscape something magical.

A round-trip ticket costs €12 per person. 🟢 Note: The Deutschland Ticket is not valid on this bus, but the Bayern Ticket is accepted. Buses depart every hour and the ride takes around 50 minutes. 🌿 Highlights of Lake Eibsee: ✔️ A scenic 7.9 km walking trail circles the lake. It takes about 90 minutes and is perfect for a peaceful walk or taking beautiful photos. ✔️ I visited on June 9, 2025, which happened to be a public holiday. The weather was lovely with mild sunshine and cool temperatures. It’s literally a super beginner-friendly hiking route 🥹💪 — perfect for all ages, from kids to grandparents! 👶👵👴 If you’ve got more time, you can even combine it with a visit to Zugspitze (Germany’s highest peak)! 🏔️🚠 🛤️ Long route: A full loop around the lake is about 7.8km with minimal elevation gain. Takes around 3 hours to complete. 📍Hot photo spot at the heart island (P1) is in the northwest corner! As a committed “hardcore traveler,” I walked the entire loop because “since I'm here, might as well go all the way!” 😤🚶♀️ There’s a paddle board rental shop and boating activities at the starting point too! 🛶☀️ 🚆 Transport tips: You can use the €49 monthly ticket for the whole journey! Because of the rain and mountain fog, we changed our original plan to go to Zugspitze and decided to hike around Eibsee instead. There are many small paths on the lakeside walking trail. I saw that many people stepped on them (they became paths). After all, it is a wild forest with a good ecology. When picking mushrooms, you must be careful ⚠️They are all poisonous mushrooms and cannot be eaten! Not edible! Not edible! Just for fun!

Our hearts suddenly became calm, completely immersed in the beautiful scenery around us. The beautiful scenery of the lake area is vivid and green, attracting many new couples to come here specifically for wedding photos. By the lake and in the dense forest, let this pure land and water witness love, which is definitely the most romantic thing in the world.

This is family-run Bavarian restaurant specializing in local sausages, with formal & rustic dining rooms. Lovely restaurant with a friendly staff who offered to take pictures for us although the restaurant was very busy. The food is tasty traditional German food irrigated generously with beer. We ordered the simple German food as we just want to have a quick one. The place is HUGE!
