Half-day hike to Batu Bertenggek Waterfall, Kuala Lumpur weekend getaway
Batu Bertenggek Waterfall is located in the Selangor Mountains north of Kuala Lumpur, near Kerling, about 65 km from downtown Kuala Lumpur, about 1.5 hours by car. It's much farther than Kanching Waterfall, which I visited before.
🚗 Navigate to Air Terjun Batu Bertenggek [Image 2]. There is a simple parking lot at the beginning of the trail. 💰MYR 3-5 per car
👕 Clothing: Short-sleeved shirt and shorts + long-sleeved sun protection clothing + hiking shoes. If you want to get in the water, wear special wading shoes + a change of clothes. Since the trail is wild and it tends to rain in the afternoon, the road is muddy and slippery after the rain, so the soles of your shoes must have anti-slip patterns (preferably herringbone).
🎒 Other equipment: Sunscreen + mosquito repellent spray + raincoat + waterproof phone bag
The hike is not difficult at first, just a dirt road through the woods. When you pass through a few open meadows, you will feel like you are in a "rice field." The mountain road down to the waterfall is steep and muddy, so be careful. It takes about half an hour to reach the waterfall. Many locals play in the river.
The river is about 100 meters from the waterfall. If the water flow is small, you can wade upstream, but since it has been raining in the afternoon recently, the water flow has increased dramatically, so you can only climb up the slope next to the waterfall and walk to the side of the waterfall to feel the rushing water cascading down the 20-meter-high cliff, creating layers of mist. There is a sloping boulder directly below the waterfall, like a high wall that cuts off the water from rushing downstream, which is also the origin of the waterfall's name.
Sitting by the waterfall, looking at the lush trees around you, the blue sky and white clouds above you, listening to the roar of the water and the birds in the mountains, you will feel very relaxed and sleepy. It's a great way to spend a weekend afternoon with a few friends in the mountains.
