A whirlwind Kumamon tour in Kumamoto.
Besides Kumamon Port Yatsushiro, there are plenty of spots in Kumamoto Prefecture where you can enjoy Kumamon! ✨
You can stay in a Kumamon-themed room filled with Kumamon decorations, watch a live Kumamon show, and even enjoy Kumamon-themed treats like Kumamon-shaped snacks, fortune slips, and bento boxes. It's the perfect way to fully immerse yourself in the world of Kumamon! 🐻
I bought the Kumamon bento box at 'Obento no Hirai' located in Kumamoto Station. 🤎
Be careful, though—it was sold out on Saturday night! I went back on Monday afternoon to get one. 🫶🏻

Tips for a free trip to Kumamoto
A review of my trip to Kumamoto, the hometown of the One Piece creator!
I discovered that while there are One Piece statues scattered around, it's nearly impossible to visit them all without renting a car. So, I only managed to take photos of the statues of Luffy, Chopper, Zoro, and Usopp, which are closer to the city center. It was a great experience to see the statues of my favorite anime characters in person. If you're traveling alone, I recommend checking out a bar called 'Noz' on Google Maps. It's a great spot to hang out with young Japanese locals, have fun, and enjoy unlimited drinks at a very affordable price!
Kumamoto Sights and must go Night Bazaar that only open for 1 day a month!
Hidden Gem in Kyushu, an hour away from Fukuoka! Easily accessible via Shinkansen or an affordable 2hr bus ride from Fukuoka Airport. Kumamoto is a highly walkable city steep in history, culture and cuisine.
Kumamoto Castle is often regarded as the top 3 castle in Japan. While the earthquake has inflicted substantial damage to it, a long and careful restoration plan is in progress to restore it. Visiting the castle now is still possible and the experience will be markedly different as you admire the restored castle while seeing it first hand the restoration works that’s ongoing around the castle compound.
Make sure to earmark your evening of the 4th Saturday of each month to visit the Shirakawa Yoichi (Night Bazaar along the banks of Shirakawa). Lucky to bump into this bazaar without prior planning and totally enjoyed the matsuri vibes of the bazaar. The food options were highly international and traditional as well. Went during Sakura period and some of the stalls are just right below the Sakura tree. Great place to picnic too.
Akagumi Ramen is a real treat, especially the miso braised offals.
Should time allow, head to Aso region and visit the Aso Jinja, as well as the Monzenmachi Shopping Street right next to the shrine. Be sure to try the Katana Steam Bun and Beef Menchi that is absolutely delish.
Flying out of Kumamoto is equally convenient if you are connecting/returning to a city that serves this route.
Highly recommended to visit and spend 3 or 4 days in this city. Grids Hotel Premium is a great place to stay.

Cherry Blossoms at Kumamoto Castle
Kumamoto Castle is adorned with cherry blossoms in full bloom, and you can also enjoy the night cherry blossoms in the evening. Despite the numerous reconstruction projects, the grandeur of Kumamoto Castle remains unaffected, leaving visitors in awe and deeply moved. The breathtaking scenery of the cherry blossoms makes it a highly recommended travel destination. Within the Kumamoto Castle grounds, there is also a ginkgo tree planted by the first lord of the castle. This sacred tree turns golden in autumn, resembling a tree of gold, and is also worth noting.

Hotel Route Inn Hirate Kumamoto Station
#March Good Places 2025
The Route Inn Group operates more than 360 hotels and other facilities in Japan and overseas and is considered a big brand. The Route Inn hotel aims to “go its own way and strive to become an enterprise that contributes to society and is needed by society”. So the design is plain, not fancy Booking early must be cheap. And add breakfast for only about 300yen more, you can completely eat very full, cheaper than going out to buy bread and coffee.
The Route Inn store in front of Kumamoto Station is only a three-five minute walk from the mall, Kumamoto Station and the airport bus, and the hotel emphasizes providing convenience to guests, so the facilities in the room are modern and complete, from high-speed Wi-Fi to smart TVs. The best thing is that there is a large bath so that travelers can relax thoroughly after a busy day. The bathroom also has a bathtub but is equipped with a separate shower and high water pressure shower with constant water temperature. Booked a little earlier on trip.com for only around HK$300 and the breakfast and bath experience was very satisfying.
Suizenji Jojuen Garden, Kumamoto - an Edo-period strolling garden with a pond
#MarchGoodPlaces2025
Suizenji Jojuu-en is an Edo period garden in the city of Kumamoto. It is said to have been built by Hosokawa Tadayoshi, the first lord of the Higo Hosokawa clan. It is a typical pond and spring garden, consisting of clear ponds, winding trails, and exquisite islands and bridges. There are green meadows and forests, as well as quaint teahouses. It is quite pleasant and relaxing to walk around.
The landscaping of Chengqu Garden is based on the "Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido" of the Edo period. The scenery along the way is condensed in the garden, allowing visitors to enjoy a variety of landscapes in a limited space, which is quite ingenious. The attractions in the park include: Izumi Shrine, the Ancient and Modern Teachings, Tsukiyama, the tea house, etc. The ticket price is ¥400.

Kumamoto Castle: Visit One of Japan's Three Famous Castles and Meet Kumamon
When visiting Kumamoto in Kyushu, you can't miss the opportunity to see Kumamoto Castle, one of Japan's three famous castles. Built by the renowned castle architect Kato Kiyomasa, the castle boasts a majestic appearance and sturdy structure. The layered stone walls and winding, complex passages make Kumamoto Castle as impregnable as a fortress. The contrast between the black lacquered exterior walls and the white plaster adds to its grandeur and distinctiveness.
Although the Kumamoto Earthquake caused severe damage to the main keep, part of it was restored and reopened in 2021. This allows visitors to capture the magnificent beauty of the castle. Missing out on Kumamoto Castle would feel like an incomplete trip to Kumamoto.
The most convenient way to reach Kumamoto Castle is by taking the city tram. Get off at the Kumamoto City Hall stop and walk for about 10 minutes. While exploring, you can soak in the tourist atmosphere and also visit the Kumamon Office to take a photo with this beloved tourism ambassador.
A horseless racecourse: Kumamoto Sakura no Babajo Saien
#MarchGoodPlaces2025
Address: 1-1-2 Ninomaru, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture
The must-see attraction when visiting Kumamoto is Kumamoto Castle, but many people will also include Sakura-no-Babajo Castle in their itinerary! Take the Kumamoto tram to Hanabata-cho and walk about 5 minutes from the bus stop. It is not a racecourse in Happy Valley, but a souvenir shopping street imitating an ancient city.
Although it’s not big overall, it’s very fun to visit! It’s okay to eat a small snack when you are hungry. For smaller items, we recommend Kumamon dolls, takoyaki, and ice cream. They are not only cute in shape! There are many flavors and they are all delicious. In addition to snacks, there are also restaurants where you can dine, try a variety of Kumamoto delicacies and experience the culture and history. If you are brave enough to eat it, I would recommend horse meat, horse meat patties, and raw horse meat sushi. You can try it if you are brave enough.
Try a Kumamoto local's holiday picnic
#MarchGoodPlaces2025
At Ninomaru Square on the hill of Kumamoto Castle, you can see the "big and small castle towers and Uto Gurney" of Kumamoto Castle. On the right side of the front is the large castle tower, which was built by Kato Kiyomasa; in the center of the front is the small castle tower, which was built as a separate building after the large castle tower was built, and the two are connected by a passage. In addition to admiring the fortress, this place is also a great place to enjoy cherry blossoms in spring, and it is hard to get a spot when they bloom.
All city government activities are held here. It happened to be spring break in Japan, so there was a Kumamoto Castle Food Festival and outdoor activities by a private insurance agency. Although the cherry blossoms haven't bloomed yet, there are many food trucks and the atmosphere is great. Let's try the Japanese BBQ beef rice first!

It's not as cold as Korea, and it's great for sightseeing here and there. Kumamoto Castle is bigger and more beautiful than I thought! 😲😲 It was a trip I want to go on again!👏👏👏

✔️ Suizenji Park. Kumamoto, Japan
The small island in the Suizenji Jojuen pond is modeled after Mt. Fuji,
and the pond is modeled after Lake Biwa in Kyoto, the largest lake in Japan.
The cute and pretty
Kumamoto Suizenji Park.
In fact, it is said to be a very
old garden that was built in 1632.
It is said to be a garden that was built by three generations of Kumamoto lords.

[Kumamoto Tourism] The paper cutout goshuin is cute 🐇 A shrine with a great view ⛩
"Kawachi Aso Shrine"
This is a shrine I visited during my trip to Kumamoto⛩
Kawachi-cho, Nishi-ku, Kumamoto
It was on a hill overlooking the Ariake Sea
In front of me is Shimabara in Nagasaki Prefecture
There are many terraced fields of mandarin oranges around🍊
Unfortunately, the harvest is over so there are only trees🌳
As you go up the stairs, you will see the worship hall in front of you
I opened the door, put in some money and received a goshuin
A cute winter paper cut goshuin "Snow rabbit"
It's a limited time item and will end when it's gone Yes.
And next is the spring cutout goshuin "Sakura Usagi"
This is the first time I've received a goshuin.
I didn't know there were such cute goshuin.
I want to collect all the spring, summer, autumn and winter ones🐇
The fortune slip was a gachapon machine lol
I didn't get a fortune slip this time︎☺︎
You can park your car just past the big torii gate.

Travel to Kumamoto, the city of Kumamon
#February travel support event #Overseas travel #Kumamoto
I wanted to enjoy the cold winter hot springs, so I went away.
I healed with delicious food and things to see and enjoy in Kumamoto.
It was a short distance that took only an hour and a half to get there,
so there was no burden on the trip, and if you take a bus to the city, there are hotels close by around the Sakuramachi Terminal, so it was convenient.
I wanted to enjoy the hot springs of each unique hotel,
so I stayed at Vessel Hotel, Candeo Hotel, and Dormy Inn Hotel for one night each, and each hotel had its own unique hot springs and delicious breakfasts, so I stayed comfortably for 3 nights and 4 days.
The Vessel Hotel had a cute room and a wonderful bath, and the Candeo Hotel had a very spacious and comfortable room, and the hot springs in the large bath located on the high floor were also nice.
The Dormy Inn had a unique traditional-style hot spring, and above all, the breakfast was excellent.
I also enjoyed shopping at the Sakuramachi Terminal in the city center and Amu Plaza next to the Kumamoto Station. You can see Kumamon, the representative character of Kumamoto, at Kumamon Square, and Kumamoto Castle, which is within walking distance from the city, is also worth seeing.
It is a city I want to visit again in the spring.

Kumamoto Castle 🏯 | Kumamoto | Japan 🇯🇵
Visit Kumamoto Castle 🏯 | Kumamoto | Japan 🇯🇵
Kumamoto City doesn't only have Kumamon, it also has a castle that is ranked in the Top 5 most beautiful in Japan. And Kumamoto Castle is designed to prevent enemies from entering. The intelligence of the people of Kumamoto is awesome!!!
But, but, but, in 2016, a major earthquake damaged the foundation of the castle (a lot of damage), but now it has been repaired to some extent and there is a plan to repair it until 2037. Because Japan will repair it to be the same as before. Every stone must be in the same place 👍🏻
Traveling from Hakata Station (Fukuoka) Take the Shinkansen to Kumamoto Station. Use the JR Northern Kyushu Pass (3days). Travel time is ~48 minutes. I haven't even had my fill of the view yet. 🤭
From Kumamoto Station to Kumamoto Castle by tram, you can pay for the bus. But we used the Kumamoto City Tram 1 Day Pass for 500 yen, which allowed us to get on and off as many stations as we wanted. It was so worth it!
When we reached the sign, we walked for a while. It was a bit of a climb, but it was enough to make us breathless (it was a good workout). When we reached the entrance, the ticket cost 800 yen. The entrance is an elevated walkway, which is a temporary walkway because the castle base is under repair (what kind of temporary walkway is this? It's super strong, it should last for decades 😝).
The place is really big. It took us a long time to get to the castle. Everyone!!! In the past, it was hard to meet the Shogun. 555+ But the place is really beautiful and grand. Inside the castle, there are exhibits on the history of the castle. It was really fun. 🫶🏻
If anyone is interested, you can come and follow my footsteps. Finally, please press the heart ♥️ to cheer me on 😘

Day 4: Kumamoto
✦ Tangible Cultural Finance Jiro Nagasaki Cafe
Jiro Nagasaki Cafe is a 100-year-old cafe, converted from an old bookstore, and is classified as a tangible cultural property. This is also a place of pilgrimage for many literary lovers, because the great Japanese writer Natsume Soseki and the famous writer Haruki Murakami have visited the cafe ☕️
From a distance, you can already feel the atmosphere of Taisho. When you enter, it is all wooden decoration. It is recommended that you sit by the window and enjoy the streetcar 🚋 passing by the window
🍴Menu
The most famous ones here are the French toast and caramel pudding 🍮 However, the pudding was sold out the day I went, plus it was raining and very cold, so I finally chose the red bean year cake soup ><
