Trekking through the Sumatran jungle was an absolutely unforgettable adventure — the kind that sticks with you forever. From the moment we stepped into the dense, green wilderness, it felt like entering another world. The air was thick with humidity and alive with the sounds of nature: chirping birds, buzzing insects, and the occasional distant call of wild animals. Towering trees formed a canopy above us, letting in scattered rays of sunlight that danced on the forest floor. Every step deeper into the jungle felt like peeling back a layer of a hidden world. But the highlight, without a doubt, was encountering wild orangutans. Seeing them in their natural habitat was nothing short of magical. These incredible creatures, so intelligent and graceful, were just lounging in the treetops or swinging effortlessly from branch to branch. One of them even paused to watch us for a while — curious, calm, almost like it knew we were there in awe of it. It’s humbling to be that close to such a powerful yet gentle animal, and it reminded us how vital it is to protect their home. The trek itself was challenging at times — steep trails, muddy paths, and the ever-present buzz of adventure in the air — but every drop of sweat was worth it. There’s something raw and exhilarating about being out there, relying on your instincts and soaking in nature in its purest form. It wasn’t just a hike; it was a journey into the wild heart of the world. And seeing orangutans in the wild? That was the soul-stirring, once-in-a-lifetime moment that made it all absolutely epic.

To enter the location is in the same direction as the pamah cottage and there are lots of toilets but unfortunately the water sometimes runs out. There is also a river flowing around here so you can play in the river. The river is also not deep so it is safe if you bring children without being afraid to bathe there. During my visit to Tugu Monas in Jakarta, I arrived by bus, which was quite convenient as there’s a nearby bus stop that made getting there easy. Once I arrived, I noticed that there are several gates to enter the area, so it's good to check which gate is closest depending on where you're coming from. I visited on a day when there weren’t too many tourists around, making it a very pleasant and peaceful experience. The spacious grounds around the monument allowed for a relaxing walk, and I didn’t feel crowded at all. For those who buy tickets to enter the monument, they provide a buggy service to help you get to the entrance, which I found to be a nice convenience. Although I didn’t go up to the top of the monument, I learned that the tip of the tower is made out of gold, which adds an interesting touch to its historical significance. Overall, my visit to Tugu Monas was a smooth and enjoyable experience, with a nice blend of history and convenience for tourists.

My first stop in Indonesia 🇮🇩 Travelling to the jungle of Bukit Lawang in North Sumatra to witness the wild orangutans, critically endangered and one of two places in the world where they can be seen!
