The road to Bingzhongluo is only one, following the Nujiang River straight north. From Kunming to Dali and then to Liuku, the capital of Nujiang Prefecture, the road is still relatively normal. But from Liuku towards Bingzhongluo, the road starts to narrow, with cliffs on the left and the Nujiang River on the right, many sections allowing only one-way traffic. The further north you go, the deeper the canyon becomes, the greener the river water, and the fewer villages along the road. After driving for a full ten hours, I thought several times about turning back, but every time I saw the unreal emerald color of the Nujiang outside the window, I felt it was worth going further no matter how far. Early the next morning, I went to Wuli Village. This village is the most remote natural village in Bingzhongluo, inaccessible by road and only reachable by walking along the ancient Tea Horse Road carved into the cliff. The path is just over a meter wide, with a rock wall on one side and the Nujiang River dozens of meters below on the other. I dared not look outward while walking. After about forty minutes and turning a bend, Wuli Village suddenly appeared before me. The entire village is built on a small terrace by the Nujiang, surrounded by green mountains. There is no light pollution here, and after dark, the sky is full of stars with the Milky Way clearly visible. But the night sky in Bingzhongluo is different from other places—because of the high mountains on both sides, the Milky Way looks like a bridge spanning between two mountains, with stars densely arranged above the canyon. I lay in the courtyard of the inn watching for a long time, occasionally hearing distant church hymns, making the night in this deep mountain area feel especially ethereal and pure. On the day I left, I wondered why Bingzhongluo is called "the place where humans and gods coexist." Maybe it’s because the beauty here surpasses anything humans can create.
