I got there from Aizuwakamatsu by train and bus. Public transport is cheap and recommended for solo travelers. However, if you are traveling with a group, renting a car is a good option. #1月好去地方2025 This visit to Ouchijuku gave me a deeper experience of the traditional Japanese post station culture. Ouchijuku is located in Fukushima Prefecture. It was once an important post station connecting Aizu and Nikko during the Edo period. Today it has become a well-preserved historical village that showcases the streetscape of the Edo period. As soon as you step into Ouchi-juku, you will see traditional buildings with thatched roofs on both sides. The atmosphere is completely different from that of modern cities, making you feel like you have traveled back in time to ancient times. There are many shops, tea houses and traditional craft shops on both sides of the streets in the village, selling local specialties such as Aizu lacquerware, handicrafts and various Japanese confectionery. Among them, the most special one is "Takato Soba", a dish of soba noodles that is eaten with green onions instead of chopsticks. Today, we visited Edo Castle, famous for its noodles... The straight street of Ouchi-juku is not long, and both sides are lined with historical thatched houses. Ouchi-juku is a post town that still retains the streetscape of the Edo period. On both sides of the road that connected Aizu and Nikko, known as the Shimotsuke Kaido, thatched-roof houses lined the streets, and played an important role as a post station for feudal lords and travelers heading to Edo. Ouchi-juku is lined with old thatched-roof houses on both sides of the road. It flourished as a post town on the Aizu Nishi Kaido, which runs from Nikko to Aizu, and in the Edo period it was an important route for sankin-kotai (alternate attendance) and for transporting rice to Edo.
