If you walk up from Hwaseong Fortress, you will eventually find this location. How to get there: First, you need to get to Suwon. From Seoul, take the subway to Suwon station. Having lived in Korea for six years, I’ve visited Suwon countless times. Here are my top six recommended cafes in Suwon ☕️🍰 I absolutely love the atmosphere in Suwon 🩵. Originally I lived in Suwon, but now I came to Daejeon for school. Suddenly, while looking at photos, I saw this small house made of snow in the winter, so I want to introduce this walking trail. This is the Olympic Park near Suwon City Hall Station, and next to it is the Cultural Center where performances are often held. If you go there, it will be very healing. The open-air area from the 4th to 7th floors is packed with thousands of books, and it is a library where you can actually pick up and read them. It is an even more impressive upgrade than the Starry Night Library at COEX MALL in Seoul! You can bring your own drinks. You can also charge your phone, so you can take a break between shopping. There are more than 400 stores, including restaurants, cafes, large stores, amusement parks, movie theaters, and children's libraries. I stayed in Dongdaemun, so I took the subway line 4 to Geumjeong Station, then changed to line 1 to Hwaseo Station, which took about an hour and 10 minutes. Once outside of Seoul, the non-Korean-speaking tourists would be left to their own devices as to how they communicate with the Koreans and find their way around. That was Suwon to me. In Hanja, Suwon means “the origin of water.” Suwon is the provincial capital of Gyeonggi-do, 48 km south of Seoul. There were really only two things to see there: the Korean Folk Village and a “faithfully restored fortress of Hwaseong” as described in the Lonely Planet. The fortress of Hwaseong was built between 1794 and 1796 during the reign of King Jeongjo of the famous Joseon Dynasty that I kept hearing about in the palaces of Seoul. It was also an effort to make Suwon the second capital city. There are four main gates, of which the Paldalmun was the most famous and a designated national treasure. It almost felt like seeing the fortress of Xi’an, an ancient capital in China. A few years ago when I arrived in Seoul, I still remember everyone checking in the super nice elevator corner at Starfield library in Coex Mall Gangnam area. Today Starfield has opened a new location in Suwon and the investment is epic than the previous one. Not only does it have a library area for you to read, relax & enjoy the magnificent architecture, but it also has many options for surrounding cafe spaces. In addition, Starfield in Suwon is also a complex commercial center with many shops and famous brands here. Once you've decided to come here, it often takes more than half a day to wander around and explore all the corners of Starfield Suwon. From Seoul station to here can be called a little far. But spent the effort to come here, I think it's worth it because of the wonderful experience at Starfield Suwon.
