Sumela Monastery, hidden in the mountains of Trabzon

I visited Sumela Monastery, which sits quietly in the mountains about an hour's drive from Trabzon on Turkey's Black Sea coast. It was closed for a long time while safety work was carried out to reinforce the rock walls, but it has finally reopened and resumed accepting tourists recently. The interior of the building, which is built clinging to the rock walls, is decorated with eye-catching, colorful, beautiful frescoes, and it was worth the long journey. You have to walk 15-20 minutes on a rough path from the parking lot, but it's a wonderful place that is worth it. The view of the mountains from there is also outstanding. #OverseasTravel
