Jingfu Academy

Jingfu Academy in Anqing was founded by Li Yue, the governor of Caojiang, in 1652 (the ninth year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty). It was originally named Peiyuan Academy. In 1733, it was changed to a government-run academy by imperial order. In 1736, it was renamed "Jingfu Academy". The term "Jingfu" comes from the "Shangshu Shundian", which means to respectfully spread education. Famous scholars such as Liu Dakui, Quan Zuwang, Yao Nai (who presided over the academy twice for a total of 14 years), and Wang Liangwu successively served as the head of the academy (equivalent to the principal). The "Chinese Academy Dictionary" defines provincial academies as higher education institutions. In 1897, Jingfu Academy was relocated to its current site. The first head of the academy was Ruan Qiang, and Hu Yuanji was the main lecturer, marking the beginning of a century of education here. The existing academy's main beam is inscribed with "Built by the Jiangnan Anhui Governor Yu (Yinlin) in the 23rd year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty (1897)". Anqing Normal University repaired Jingfu Academy three times in 1998, 2000, and 2002.
