Hiking in Appenzell🇨🇭 A Hidden Alpine Gem!

If you're looking for an unforgettable hiking experience in Switzerland beyond the crowds of Zermatt or Interlaken, Appenzell is a true hidden gem. Nestled in the northeast, this charming region offers dramatic landscapes, traditional Swiss culture, and some of the most scenic trails I’ve ever walked. We started our hike from Wasserauen, making our way up to the crystal-clear Seealpsee lake — a perfect mirror surrounded by jagged cliffs and green pastures. After a short break by the lake, we hiked further up to the iconic Berggasthaus Äscher, the cliffside guesthouse that looks like it’s carved right into the mountain wall. The view? Simply jaw-dropping. Instead of taking the cable car, we did the full loop: climbing up and hiking all the way down through Ebenalp. It was a rewarding 4–5 hour hike, filled with alpine flowers, curious cows, and panoramic views at every turn.
