The town of Ares del Maestre is ideally situated atop a rocky hill overlooking the beautiful and rugged landscape of the El Maestrazgo region.

Spanish Mediterranean Coast Tour ~ Castellón (Region) On the town's mound we have the ruins of an ancient castle, where Iberian remains were found, as well as several facades of the Arab wall that transformed the Champ de Mars into a parade ground in the Middle Ages. The small city centre stretches to the foot of the castle hill, with the most striking feature being the 18th-century parish church with its Baroque facade. The bell tower attached to the main body has the property of being shorter than the rest of the building. The main square (also known as the Plaza Mayor) is the nerve center of the village, in which we can find other important buildings such as Los Porches, the old exchange house with its Gothic-Mudéjar arches, and a 13th-century prison. The Town Hall is a Gothic building built on the ancient city walls. Its most notable feature is the chapter house built in the 10th century. Another interesting landmark of this village is the Barranc dels Molins , where we find five water mills (17th-18th centuries) that are real masterpieces of engineering. We can also visit the Remigia Caves, where precious examples of Levantine-style cave art are preserved. #February2025 #SpainTravel #Valencia
