Built in 1885, it is modeled after the Capitol Building in Washington, and is 7 feet taller than it. There is a 14-foot-tall Statue of Liberty on the top of the building. There are free tours you can take every 30 minutes to learn about the Capitol itself. History and Texas History. I personally recommend that anyone who travels to Austin must visit. When we visited, we also saw civil servants walking out in neat suits. Don’t miss the gift shop next to it, the souvenirs are quite exquisite. The Parliament Building occupies a large area and there is a parking lot opposite.
