Fine ceramics from Avanos

#11GoodDestinations2024 Avanos is a beautiful town in Türkiye's Cappadocia region, famous for its exquisite ceramics. As I strolled along the streets here, I saw all kinds of ceramic shops everywhere, displaying colorful and exquisitely crafted works. Among them, the pottery made of red clay from the local Red River (Kızılırmak) has a delicate texture and is unique. While visiting a family-run ceramics workshop, the enthusiastic owner personally demonstrated traditional pottery-making techniques and invited me to try making my own pottery. This hands-on experience gave me a deeper understanding of the local culture and craftsmanship. In addition, the store also displays many exquisite ceramic works, ranging from daily tableware to artistic ornaments, which are dazzling and eye-catching. Avanos is about 8 kilometers away from Göreme and has convenient transportation. It only takes about 15 minutes to get there from Goreme by bus or taxi.
