📍Hyakudanen and Awaji Yumebutai This is the famous Tadao Ando building! "Awaji Yumebutai" is a complex located in the northern part of Awaji Island, designed by architect Tadao Ando. In addition to "Hyakudanen" shown at the beginning of the photo, it is composed of Grand Nikko Awaji, an international conference center, a shopping and restaurant floor, a botanical garden "Kiseki no Hoshi Botanical Garden", and the national Akashi Kaikyo Park is adjacent to it. The site where it was built was originally a sand quarry for use in landfill for the construction of Kansai International Airport and other facilities, where the mountains of Awaji were cut down. Tadao Ando was in charge of the design from the beginning, and the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake occurred just as construction was about to begin. The concept was changed after an active fault was found on the premises (sketches of the change process were on display in the Yumebutai corridor), and it opened in 2000. Hyakudanen is a garden with 100 flower beds arranged in a stepped pattern along the slope of a mountain. It was designed by Tadao Ando as a "garden of prayer" for the victims of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. Each block has its own concept: "Garden of Prayer to the Sea," "Harvest Garden," and "Awaji Meadow Garden." From the high ground where Hyakudanen is located, you can look down on Osaka Bay, and the view is spectacular. In addition to that, there are areas such as the "Sky Garden" and "Water Garden" through the "Sea Corridor" and "Mountain Corridor," and the concept is that all of these are likened to strolling gardens. #0yentravelJanuary2025
